I downloaded the new files to fix some of the problems with diplomacy and Metaverse. I'm still crashing regularly at the diplomacy screen. This happens most often with the Arceans and the Yor Collective.

I'm also getting crushed by minor races. How in the world can they manufacture so fast?

Maybe this is mentioned in here somewhere but I need to make sure.

Fog of war still allows you to see enemy ships in orbit on their planets even when the planet is behind the fog. Kind of defeats the purpose of fog or war. I got a separate link for it too:

Brief Description: At the beginning of a turn when attempting to move selected colony ship to yellow star about one ship length away, instead got "voop" noise for "no move" and the focus changed to one of my colonies *3 sectors away* that had no ships in orbit at the galactic level, but which had one scout just finished but not launched.

The colony to which I kept being refocused had no selection ring around it. The colony ship did not originate from the colony to which I kept being refocused, but from a colony in the same sector as its destination. The starship could not have been out of fuel as its total travel was only about 2/3 of a sector at most, perhaps a bit less.

The colony to which the focus kept jumping had no relationship to the colony ship that I was trying to move, nor did it have any ship awaiting moves at the galactic level. Although it did have one scout awaiting launch that scout was not visible at the galactic level.

I would not mention this at all, except that the focus jumping three sectors instead of the colony ship moving (or just not moving) seemed worth bringing to your attention.

I have a problem when I check the empire stats under diplomacy. The program will crash to the desktop intermittently when I do so. It seems to be more frequent in an ongoing game once a star system has been destroyed by a terror star.

I loaded the smart exception applet but it does not generate any data.

My system is Windows 2000, ATI Radeon 7500, 256MB RAM, 800 Mhz CPU.

Hey everyone. I just played a game where the UP passed a rule to give transports the +10 attack for 3 years. It does show up on a transports details, and they can attack other ships, but they cannot attack ships in orbit. I didn't know if this was intended or not, but it really sucked because I was going to take out a Drengin system that had 3 26 planets in it! Thanks.

This thread is so huge, sorry if any of these are repeats...

1) You cannot use the military governor screen to switch from building "Nothing" to a ship. The interface implies this, and it would be SUPER useful for those of us who save our military build points for a rainy day.

2) If you use the military governor while the planets list is open, the list is not updated when you use the governor to change ship production. You have to back out and reopen the screen. :P

Also, this is not a bug, but it is possible to globally switch all planets to a new governor? That would be very useful.

Problem 1

1) Have a little trade ship directly south of a star system
2) Move a ship from orbiting a planet to outside (should appear just south of the system on the little ship)
3) Try to click on the ship to move it.
4) Note the ship stack comes up with a black square icon for the mini trade ship. The other ships in the stack show up normally.
5) Can't move the stack or click on individual ships, you have to use the find button to get to the ships in the stack.
6) Once you do manage to move your ships off, the mini trade ship will just sit there and do nothing indefinately.

Problem 2

1) Similar to problem 1
2) Give a friendly race one of your ships docked at a star system.
3) Click on the ship as soon as it appears out of your star system.
4) The ship will just sit there and not move for many turns.

Problem 3

1) Allied victory, killed last Yor, only myself and the drengin left (allies).
2) Game would not end for several turns, checked the race screen and the Yor still showed as owning the last two systems I took.
3) I checked and they had no influence or revenue or production, but they did have 10000 in cash.
4) Game finally figured out that I won after a bunch of turns.
5) The AI should have capitulated long before I took the last world, I had dozens of planets and had reduced the yor to just a handful (the drengin had 2 as well).

Problem 4

1) During a galactic economic boost at one point my monthly revenue was stuck at 1360 (or something like that) and no matter what I moved the sliders to it would not change.
2) It was months before it went back to normal.

Weird crash problem, probably with the Draginol event. (Thread too full for me to see if it's been mentioned before... lazy me)

I had saved a game directly after I got the message that something strange was going on. First I ignored it, the Draginol came and effectively wiped me out; but there was no crah anytime in that game.

Now, I loaded the game, evacuated and destroyed the colony, placed a defensive ring around the system and waited for something to happen. What happens is that every so often, the game will crash to desktop an unpredictable times. Sometimes, it happens two or three turns after I loaded the savegame, sometimes (especially if I save often), it takes longer; but ultimately, the result is always the same. It happens with both 1.01 and 1.01a versions (+multimedia +bonuspack).

I made a zipfile of the savegame, the debug.err (which _always_ ends with "Random Event: Begin") and the SmartException log. Anyone interested in that?

If a tiny trade vessel (for established route) is on my star system, I cannot put my ships into orbit (it asks whether I want to attack or not).

Some more info about the endless turns problem; I get it about every other game (ie I have to start two games for it to not happen). The turns DO end, it just takes awhile. It happened on my first game, and I wasn't 100% sure if it was just being slow or if I was doing something wrong. ~5 minutes and then the turn would pass.

Minor Bug. The game does not remember where you left the music volume slider. In the ini file it keeps resetting to MusicVolume=82.

This has probably already been snoted, but the GRAPHS section about your own empire (not the main screen graph, the other ones) seem like a lot of them are wrong. Especially income/treasury

Is +Range working in the race setup screen? Doesnt seem to be for me, my colony ships dont have any greater range at the start of the game. Also, it mentions parsecs in the text description, but shouldnt it say sectors?

Is anybody going to help me with my problem????
Been trying to install the update for 3days. No go.
When I try to update the game, this is what I got.
An I/O error occurred while installing a file. This is normally caused by a bad installation media or a corrupt installation file.
abort or retry?
copying files.... c:\..\Galactic civilizations\ecent music\spy.mp3 38% done.
When I click abort, another message..
Corrupt installation file! Then it goes back to 36% completion.
download the file 3 times.
after that failed attempt. I try to play the game and
it crash to windows all the time. Have to reinstall
the game in order to play it. Not happy about it.

Terror Star tech should depend on Planetary Destruction tech?

Currently it only depends on Artificial Planets. The text for Planetary Destruction REALLY seems to indicate that it should be required ( the "Terror Stars, baby! We're getting closer." kinda gives it away ).

Attacking with a fleet should only remove the movement point for attacking from the ship(s) that actually attack(s).

It is a bit annoying to have to break up my fleet to attack a planet so that my transports don't use all their movement "attacking" the planetary defense ships.

An odd one I came across. It seems that if you reload the game while a freighter is in motion, the freighter looses track of its point of origin. Either that or accidentally docking with a starbase did it. I had a game that I saved while all of my initial freighters were in route. When they made contact, they all chose, instead of the nice juicy starting system that had built them with a nearby starbase with a fully beefed up trade modifier, some little backwater dump that was barely inhabitted and was positioned such that if I tried adding starbases with trade bonuses anywhere but in the sector that planet was in, the AIs would benefit more by trade amongst themselves than with me.

sorry if this had been repeated just don't have the time to read 245 posts.. But You can not break alliance with the I-Leagaue, they kept delcaring war and my economy was shot.. so the only way i could have broken the alliace was decalre war then make peace.. however this had the side effect of loosing all my trade routes which really knocked me into the hole. ANd I was winning too. sigh

I just got this game today, and am totally mystified. When I went to download the bonus pack, it said I must have already installed the Gal Civ game.

Wrong, I just read the number off the CD Box.

Please, for this pathetic newbie, is it safe to even install the game? Or does something else need to be done first?

THIS IS VERY VERY CONFUSING AND DOESNT NEED TO BE.
Thanks in advance,

Smokin Bob

EXPLOIT COULD BE FIXED:

DURING a war w/the Drengin I could sell him a bunch of scouts then attack them outside my stars and gain experience from the target shooting... sorta silly.

EVENT PreCursorShip reported that the neutral option would provide a 1%-2% planet improvement, totally useless 10 x 1.01 = 10.01 truncate to an integer and it is still 10. Shouldn't the range be 10%-20%

I had a net income of +30 bc. I installed the Bonus Pack and SDC and net income is now -133 bc. What happened? I don't think I installed the update using SDC but I did a refresh I and it looked like I downloaded something in a couple of seconds (DSL). Any ideas or suggestions? (:(
