Hello everyone,

 

recently I made a rainlender, but unfortunatley I have pretty much well ripped off Fairyy's 'once apon a time'   ....I did not realize that what I did was wrong, but it is and I want everyone to know what I have done is wrong and appologize to the community.

 

This was my first rainlender, and I downloaded Fairyy's once apon a time to disect it, see how things work, measurements, ect......  I borrowed her ini file and changed the font colour to my own liking.  But now I know that this is ripping and that its wrong....and yet again, I appologize to everyone.

 

She worked so hard on this skin, and I came along and made a few stupid changes and claimed it as my own and thought it would be okay to do so..........I cannot express how ashamed I am, and I hope that fairyy will forgive me and hopefully help me with rainlender in the future, so I can stand on my own two feet and make my own.

 

I feel so horrible right now, and I feel that I have let everybody down...

 

I just hope that everyone can forgive me for my stupid mistake......and my own ignorance.....

I am currently standing and applauding kittymalone's post (take my word for it).
It takes a big person to admit a mistake, an even bigger one to admit it publicly, and it takes a true future skinner to include into that public apology the desire to learn skinning and make skins of their own in the future. I for one look forward to kitty's rainys.

Dissecting existing skins is sometimes the only way to learn.If hadnt used RomanDA's widgets for reference...Tiggz and Boss0190's logons for splash info...I would probably never have finished one.  

My stuff looks totally different than theirs,but I couldnt have done it without them.

If something in the code is entirely unique to that skin or author...ask them...they are usually pretty helpful.

Hello everyone,

You know, I cried when I read these comments, because quite frankly I was morally ready to get a stoning for my actions. I would love to contact Fairyy, but Ive no idea what her email is, I couldnt see it on her personal page. I still feel sick to the stomache, and I guess I wont feel the same until I make peace with Fairry........

If anyone knows her email, id greatly appreciate it..... and I do thank everyone for understanding and forgiving my mistake with this rainlender... and i DO promise that I will resubmit it, when its my own work.....

click on her user's name and it gives the option to email her through Stardock keeping her addy private.

kittymalone ....it's a fair bet to say that pretty-well every skinner starts out by doing just the same....dissecting another's skin and modifying it...to learn how/why/etc.

The only thing to remember is that's just the starting point.....you then go on to create original works...which can be uploaded/distributed as your own.

Don't feel bad about getting it a little bit wrong.  The only ones deserving censure are those who maintain they are not at fault.

It's one of the issues with 'crying rip'....it isn't always intentional....sometimes it's simply inexperience.

I can point fairyy to this thread [we've emailed once or twice before - ] and I'm sure she'll applaud your comment/s here...

You are a stand up kind of person and you will do fine here. It is so refreshing to see this kind of honesty. Jafo is right, most of us, including myself got started by disecting someone elses work. I did know to ask for permission, and when you found out you owned up to it and know to ask. I don't think fairyy will have any problem with this at all!

I hadn't read this thread when I received Kitty's most sincere apology. It was a lovely email and I have already told Kitty I'll be very happy to help her out. Its funny how just a few words that are sincere can make a difference.

Maybe once or twice or a tad more - I find it best to not babble in forum - mostly because anger is a fleeting moment and Forums live on forever sometimes.

I just wanted to toss my own sentiments in on this one.  Like others here, I find it very refreshing to see your response.  Where others react with indignation or entitlement, you showed genuine regret and admitted your mistake.  It's clear you meant no harm by what you did and are sorry for it.  In light of all the turmoil and anger we see sometimes on these boards and on this site, it's threads like these that make me glad to have the opportunity to help serve all of you by tending this site.

This thread is proof that you are a gem and a real value to this community, I hope you stick around for a good long while yet to come!

Kitty, only a self-righteous ass would refuse to accept a sincere apology...
Unfortunately my Rainlendars had been copied in the past. One person just recolored one of them I made a horrible green. I suppose 90% of all rips may they be walls or wb's etc are not intentional " Rips " per se.
Im sure a lot of people really don't know they have done anything wrong. Then of course there are the blatant rippers that just upload others walls and they know just what they are doing.

I help a lot of people with rainlendars - mostly though email and without fanfare. I'm no expert by far but I do take pride in what I make even if its " only a Rainy "
I'm glad things turned out the way they did though - like Zoomba pointed out - it was refreshing to see someone just say Im sorry - I meant no harm
