Question regarding awards.

After searching in the forms i think that many skinners including myself don't know what awards are based on. You'd think there'd be an short article somewhere. I read a comment in here were a person stated that awards are not important, but that its the item being shared thats important. I agree, but if awards are given isn't it a good idea to know the criteria for the award?

Ive compiled a list and I'm hoping some of you vets can fill in the blanks this way future skinners will understand what these awards are and why they were obtained.

Personally my Main curiosity Regarding All of the awards; Are they measured by time? 1 month or 1year or half a year?. Are some awards based on a month while others yearly?

There are other awards also that could use a little explaining. For example 'Top 2 Veteran,' not sure what thats all about, but does that suggest theres a top apprentice, or new comer.
- - So If you know what these awards are here please leave some feedback on any of them, including the time factor. Thanks in advance for your input.

I would like to know what top 2 veteran means.

And a couple of new awards would be cool...that 'over 1000 dl'ds'award is kinda silly...how about over 100,000...500,000...1,000,000.

2 years as WC subscriber; since I have not seen a top 3 veteran, not sure if goes more than 2.

And a couple of new awards would be cool...that 'over 1000 dl'ds'award is kinda silly...how about over 100,000...500,000...1,000,000.


Yep, would be nice to see but when has been brought up before it never seem to get much interest from those who would implement it.

Thank you very much for your feedback so far, that clears up my Big #1 question - "Are they measured by time?"

I do think these awards were a great idea whoever thought of it.

It might also be a Great idea to give Some Based on a section of relevant time like 1Year for example. As that the "ALL TIME" gives a very clear disadvantage for a newer person with the same or even better current performance.

It Also explains how that the awards that popped up on my page where simple a glitch in the Matrix.

Sounds like even some of you Veterans are uncertain on a couple of these. Hopefully there will be another post or two to clear up some of thees other questions you posted.

hope i didn't kill the end of posts with my thank you. this isn't a topic most skinners talk about much, i think theres some sort of bashfulness there or something. Any ways if no one else comments i hope this (small) amount of info will help any newcomers.

So if your newer to stardock and your a skinner don't plan on seeing any awards because your downloads will most likely not match that of a veteran being of course they have a 1 to 4 year headstart (give or take).

Boss is right,I didnt have any when I started in 2003...but a lot of those top numbers are from skinners no longer here...so if you stick around long enough and your any good...you pass them up.

I thought it was kind of silly myself.
I got the 1,000 Downloads Award my 2nd day here as a BootSkinner, and thought, "Oh cool, wonder what I'll get next".
A year later and that's STILL the only award I have!  
Starting the Award out at 50,000 or 100,000 probably would have been better.

Yes..., though the people id be graded with after 4 yrs, will then have like 5 to 8 years counting, apart from those who drop off.

Who knows, perhaps some shinny new Awards will surface one day!

Spend more time learning and creating good skins instead of worrying about what awards mean or how far you are behind somebody.

If you work is good, people will notice and everything else will follow.

I don't mean to be misunderstood. Ive seen different posts about how stardock needs to cultivate new skinners. This is an area were i don't see it doing that.

As for stardock, i love these products. The more skins are created, the better my computer looks. I think you misunderstand my intentions. Which of course is easy to do with my 3rd grade education.

As for learning and creating good skins, im quite happy with my past skins, Ive only been at it for 2 months. i probably spend to much time doing just that. PS i always I welcome your comments on my skins, as my posts.

I assume it means author with the highest downloads for those categories. *shrug* At least that's what seems logical to me...
