Vista is just an upgrade of XP Proffessional as far as I have been led to believe, and as such anything should run as long as it is windows compatable.
I'm sure someone can confirm this ( or put me right too )

BTW Good to dee you Mud.

Your best bet is to go to IBuyPower and go through their Intel Core 2 Duo Configurator. You can get the machine of your choice.

I recommend that you get at least a E6400 with a 500W PSU and 2GB DDR2-800 RAM. They have a wide variety of video cards, a GeForce 7900GT w/256MB is a good mid to high range choice. Add a DVD +/-RW and a 160GB SATA drive and you're talking about $1200. If you cut it down to 1GB of DDR2-800 RAM and a 7600GT w/256MB your talking about $940.

If you add another $135 to these prices you can get it preloaded with a vanillia install of XP Pro SP2 which includes a Restore CD.

I recently bought pretty much the same machine except I got it from HP (with all the crap that HP installs on it). At least it has XP Pro SP2 on it. If I had it to do over again I would have gone the IBuyPower way.

Nope...there are a lot of apps that run on XP that won't run on Vista...oddly enough, at least two of those apps bear Microsoft's name plate...namely Windows Messenger (there's probably been an upgrade since I tried, but I couldn't get it to run on Vista) and Rise of Nations.

Vista wont run most things cause of the security it uses. Dell uses XP Media Center 2005. So as of right now Vista sucks.
