Sometimes Beauty Just Knocks On Your Door

I was sitting here knitting, drinking a beer, and watching the idiot box when someone knocked on my door. WTF? It's a rare thing for someone to knock on my door. As I was in the middle of a round on my knitting I didn't want to lay it down and maybe stretch the stitches or have one slip off the needles so I carried it to the door with me. Being as the door is only like three feet away I didn't even need to pick up the skein.

When I opened the door I was met with a wonderous sight. It was a woman, probably in her mid to late thirties, nicely dressed, and drop dead, knock out, makes your tongue hard, gorgeous. Serious WTF time now. I greeted her in my normal at home and not expecting company look; uncombed hair, shorts, polo shirt, bare feet, and basically just looking like a wild man.

She glanced at the knitting in my hand and apologized for disturbing me and said that she was looking for an address. As my house isn't numbered she thought she would take a chance even though she was sure it wasn't the right one. I directed her to the correct address and we chatted for a moment. She actually asked "What are you knitting? It looks like the start of a sock."

I confirmed her assumption and we talked about knitting for a minute. She left apologizing again for disturbing me and as she climbed into her car said "There's something really sexy about a guy who knits." Me, being the total social dumbass that I am, just waved and smiled before walking back inside.

I need another beer.

Hey M, I went out and bought some needles and began practicing, from a book....thrown down in frustration....for now! I got crochet too since I've always wanted to do that as well, I took more easily to that!

Pick them back up and have some patience. I was frustrated at first too but it slowly sank in. Amy Finlay has some great short videos on her website, www.knittinghelp.com that really helped me get going. They have a really great help forum there too.

Yeah, it is frustrating to begin with but it really does get easier. The needles feel awkward and it's hard to imagine getting the stitches just right, but if you keep after it, it will come together. The first few rows are the hardest and most awkward, but once you get them out of the way it gets much easier to handle.

If it weren't for that site I would have given up pretty quick. Between the videos and the great people on the forum it got me up and running pretty quick. They're a very friendly and supportive bunch with a good sense of humor to boot.
