Spending That Cash

Hey if this is a suggestions on where to unload money article I have a *big* suggestion to put at the head of the line.     I'm always looking for where the extra cash that should be mine went, so please forward any you have right on along.

Is Orange the only color?

If ever happen to have any "extra" cash, I'll keep it in mind

Yeah, that seems to be the only color it comes in. I'm not too wild about the color but I can live with it. It's the least "girly" knitting bag I've been able to find.

Up front: I've sewn, I cook, and admittedly can name more fashion designers than any heterosexual man should be able to. That said, I'm not trying to poke fun or be homophobic, etc., but do a lot of truck drivers, well, knit? Don't you catch hell about it?

I got a lot of flack in high school over two things. First, I took Home Economics almost every year. Second, a friend and I pushed for the inclusion male cheerleaders the entire time we were there. Of course, regardless of the fact I was always in trouble with some girls boyfriend or daddy, I was labelled a fruit.

Well, DUH, home economics was where the girls were. Anyone who wouldn't be interested in hanging out and manhandling cheerleaders would be suspect in my book as well. Oddly, the 'he-man' type was always in the shower with the other sweaty football players and in AG glass manhandling cattle.

Sorry, lol, that was long. The truck drivers I have known have always been the "How about them Bears", ham fisted, manly men types. Every time I see you post about this I remember high school and taking flack for aligning myself more with 'girl stuff', even though it was usually in pursuit of them.

I'm not really sure how many truckers out there secretly knit or crochet or needlepoint in their trucks, but not too many do it publicly. I just happen to be one of those guys who isn't the least insecure and so basically couldn't give a red rat's ass what anyone thinks.

As far as catching hell, no I don't. In person I do not look like the type of person one would wish to "give hell" and most folks who don't know me leave me alone. I've caught a good natured joke here and there and am more than willing to laugh right along with them. I've had a number of quite positive comments about it from fellow drivers, usually accompanied by something like "I would never have the patience for that". They're curious, even mildly interested, as most of us are always looking for something to pass the time when we're shut down.



I'd say that would be a pretty good description of me, just without the homophobic insecurities a lot of those guys seem to have.

Interestingly, I've found that knitting in public is a great way to meet women. It's an excellent ice breaker and when I knit in public, like a truck stop or diner, some woman will invariably approach me to ask about the knitting, comment on the knitting, or just strike up a conversation.


I will confess that I have found that the vast majority of the male knitters I have come across are gay, but not all. There are straight guys like myself who enjoy the craft. Besides, it was men who originally invented knitting and up into the first half of the 20th century it was quite common for men and boys to be seen knitting.

It's always been about self-sufficiency to me. I know men that I grew up around that right now if their wives left or died would literally not know how to cook their own supper, sew on a button, or even wash their clothes in their own washer and dryer. To me, THAT is a lot more, well, candy assed. There's always been something effeminate about a grown man-child that needs his wife to be his momma, too, lol.

Kudos to you. I can vouch for the meeting women, thing. Home Economics class in high school is like fish in a barrel, lol, with no other fisherman usually.

I agree 100%. My mother made a point of teaching me all of the skills I needed in order to take care of myself. I cook, do laundry, sew (basics), and can do all of the stuff I need to care for myself as well as being able to repair my own car, truck, bicycle, and computer. I can easily shift gears from chopping wood (haven't done that in ages) to cooking a meal.

I agree...I always tell single guys that one sure way to impress a date is to cook a GOOD dinner for her. It worked for me, at least!

This is a traditional thing for mom's from the Caribbean to do as well, teach their boys to be self sufficient, it's a good thing!

Yes, it is a good thing. Sadly, these days mothers seem to go out of their way to raise helpless idiots.
