Another query...

Will we be able to design our own ships or will we have to stick with the stock configurations of ships?

No ship designing, it can't be managed in real time and if paused it would detract from the RTS which is the main aspect of the game. Or something.

Capital ships "level up" and can be upgraded in different ways though.

No pausing?! What they gonna do, disable the pause button?   

I think pausing would detract from any game that is real time, doesn't mean pausing is generally disabled. I know I've paused the game in God of War many times. Hell, you have to when upgrading your abilities!

Thats right, no pause! so get yourself a bedpan and some extra food and drinks for them longer games, that take over 2 hours!

hiddenrabbit I think your referring to one person pause, like bringing up hte menu

that doesnt stop anything in multiplayer and it doesnt allow you to manipulate your ships in first player. so its not in game pausing.

and like alexand3r said, designing ships is too below the scope to put that much effort into (it would overcomplicate gameplay)

It works fine in a TBS (GCII) where battles are calculated with hitpoints and statistics (you can stick a weapon anywhere on a ship and it contributes towards the ships total attack, rather than being an independent weapon). But in an RTS, where firing arcs on ships have to be taken into account (weapons do function independently) ship designing becomes too complicated to both implement and use.

It seemed to work in Imperium Galactica 2 too.(real time with variable gamespeeds) There can easily be some degree of customisation to your ships. I don't think anyone was expecting a GC level of designing.

that would be amazing, I would just create a ship that did nothing but recoil in circles, it would be like a whirling shooting blade of doom.

of course the outside guns would have to be massive while the inside ones would have to be pea shooters, to keep structural integrity from failing
until the guns fired out of sequence...then structural stress might tear it apart

dont you think my technology would be enough to sequence sparks to go off at the same time? I sure would hope so... otherwise I wouldnt trust getting into any of my spaceships...
