Dream Gallery

Well Vista has been released, but the Dream Gallery is still pretty much empty. I was kind of expecting a grand launch of the gallery today. I realize I may be expecting too much too soon, but....What's up?  I thought that Stardock was developing Dreams all along and would have a few posted on the day of Vista's launch. Did I miss an announcement somewhere?

DeskScapes and the .Dream animated wallpapers are tied to Microsoft releasing DreamScene, a Windows Vista Ultimate Extra.  DreamScene is a prerequisite for DeskScapes, so once Microsoft releases DreamScene we'll have the Dream gallery ready to launch.

Until then, you wouldn't be able to use the files anyway.

Windows DreamScene isn't available yet.

concerning dreamscene, I don't understand why it is only available for Vista Ultimate.
It should be properly working on Home Premium as well, since it has all the graphic stuff Ultimate has (the difference between the 2 editions is mainly security and network related).

Can someone explain me why I won't be able to use the cool feature? I don't want/need Ultimate...

My simple guess: Microsoft wants to make more money by offering something only available in the most expensive version of the OS.

To explain a bit further my previous post: Having Dreamscene would allow me to run DeskScapes, the functionaslity I'm looking forward to.
Can't we imagine Home Premium Edition owners being able to download Dreamscene?

Huh?

Ms. Bebi Bulma, I think we can agree on the fact that most home users won't need Ultimate for their everyday needs, so I tend to agree with you on this one, forcing people to buy Ultimate bundled with data encryption, backup solutions and Network connexion wizzards most of us don't need (I've got my work PC for that, thank you very grazie), just to be able to run something as useless as an animated wallpaper, there's something weird here as far as I'm concerned, an not fair to customers.

It's all a moot point to me, I'll be sticking with XP Pro for quite some time. Vista has nothing to offer me that I can't do just fine in XP.

To me, it's just a new toy I have to try! But little things are bothering me nonetheless... And I'm also looking forward to new possibilities skinning-wise with this new OS, that's the selling point for me (But I'm not planning on skinning Backup software or Data encryption processes...).

an not fair to customers.

Microsoft is not in the business of being fair.  It is in the business of making money.  If there is a desire for a feature that people will pay for it is fair for MS to charge for it.  They could just as easily charge for the start button (but who knows if anyone would buy it).

If you want DreamThings, pay for them . . or don't.  That's fair, right?

well I for one have Ultimate so let's have it - DreamSceen,DeskScapes-DreamScapes whatever your calling it let's have it - what will you provide to us ( program ) to make these for the site ? Easy/hard will it be to make one - not sure what's envoled here or will these only come from Stardock - are they gonna be free? to us - all good questions I think ! answers ?

forcing people to buy Ultimate bundled

No-one's forcing anyone to do anything.

If on one hand the animated walls is 'useless' then there's no desire for it, hence no 'force'.

If, on the other hand you WANT the animated walls then that is just another incentive to choose 'Ultimate'.

There is BOUND TO BE a percentage of 'Ultimate' users who choose to do so purely for the animations....the determining 'final straw'...

Will customers running Windows Vista RC1 still be able to download and use Vista Ultimate Extras? Not saying that I'm running it...I'm using RTM. My cousin is using RC1 and is worried about VUE's...

I don't understand why you guys takes it so much at heart when something is said "against" the almighty Microsoft. Take it easy guys!
That reminds me of some futile discussions between PS2 and XBox fanboys.

I'm just asking wheither Dreamscene will be available for Vista Home Premium users, that's all, adding a little comment about what I think about the marketing philosophy behind it. I didn't imply I'm not ready to pay for Dreamscene, don't make me say what I didn't say...

And you've got to admit, that Vista Ultimate is as good as Vista Home Premium as far as graphics capabilities are concerned. So tell me, why shouldn't I be entitled to have Dreamscene on my PC? Oh yeah, I didn't pay for Ultimate because I used my brain by not paying $200 more for the alpha and omega of all OS...

Seriously guys, take a deep breath, stop licking Microsoft boots (I know why you do that, business is business), I'm just a bit freaked out by the admin reactions to my post, maybe I misinterpret, but it sounds mean, and I'm scared (I'm French, let me remind you, I'm a coward, but thank god I'm not a middle-eastern guy, or I would have been burnt to a crisp by now).

So, in a nutshell: Will I be able to purshase Dreamscene, or is it just a Vista Ultimate thing as stated on the Stardock website?

maybe I misinterpret,

That would be a 'yes'.

You can't have it both ways....'use your head' and decide NOT to choose 'Ultimate' but then complain that some feature/goodie/whatever is not included on the option you DID choose.

The simple logical argument would be....IF a feature/goodie/whatever was ONLY available in one ver of Vista......would not 'using your head' determine that THAT version was the one to choose?

None of this post defends Microsoft in any way at all.  What it DOES defend is the use of LOGIC.....

It's an Ultimate Extra for Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate.  It's their decision so you would have to address it to them.

According to the Microsoft website it's a free download for Vista Ultimate users, so I see no indication that it will be sold.

So it will be for the Ultimate guys then...

Well... That's a shame... (a la Seinfeld).

Hey Jafo, you want a piece of me?
My head's okay, or at least that's what the voice I hear in my head keeps telling me (as well as "kill... kill... kill...", but that's not the point here).

A bit early in the month to be running out of pills, isn't it?

So, any Ultimate Extras for RC1?

Outside of a limited beta test group, there were no extras released for any beta or RC versions of Vista.  It's only for retail customers.
