Murdo, SD

aka Nowhere, USA

I'm parked for the night in Murdo, SD. It's not exactly the middle of nowhere, but you can see it from here. It's a small Western community/tourist trap that appears to survive primarily on whatever money flows in from the interstate. The truckstop is small with a dirt lot and a diner. Good enough for a peaceful night's rest I think.

I was planning to go a little further yet today but the sun had sunk to that low point in the sky where it was shining straight into my eyes as I drove straight at it. As I'm not pressed for time, and the sun's glare was starting to give me a headache, I decided to just stop here. I'm 1/3 of the way to Seattle at this point and should be able to knock out another third of it tomorrow.

Thankfully the wind died down some. This load has a real wind drag effect and with that nasty wind blowing earlier I was losing a lot of speed on the hills. I think it may also have been at least partly due to some less than ideal fuel as the truck starting pulling a little bit better after I refueled today. But the wind drag was definitely still there.

I'm going to spend this evening mostly watching movies and knitting. The cellular signal here is weak so my internet connection is very slow which is very annoying. I guess my web surfing will be limited tonight unless the signal improves after the sun goes down (which it often does).

Sounds like a real exciting evening huh?

I have heard of Murdo. Does that make it part of "tour America"?

Have a restful evening. We did get snow. Flurries. As I said, a few flakes, and some even of the precipitous kind.

I thought that said "Murder" at first glance...

Enjoy the knitting, how is the scarf coming along anyway? Stay warm, and enjoy the scenery. Be safe!

Well, I guess some would consider a night in Murdo to be murder.

Thanks.

The scarf is coming along. As I haven't had a lot of time to work it lately it's only 29" long at this point. But my knitting is improving quite a bit.

You want excitement?  How about watching Fred Astaire?  That's what I did tonight,  watched part of "Band Wagon with him and Cyd Charisse...

That and cooked up burger for lasagna tomorrow.  I like to make that from scratch.

Your night doesn't sound so bad,  sounds relaxing after driving!  especially with windy weather!  Have a good drive tomorrow
