Ships colours

Do they change?

I've noticed in the recent batch of screenshots that the colours the ships fly don't stay the same, this applies to all races but the Vasari are a good example. All the shots can be found here.

(I would post them in individual links but it seems the forum HTML has become somewhat garbled when it comes to posting links, unfortunately this means there's some digging to be done to find the shots in question but there are definitely Vasari ships flying in Red, Orange and Blue)

Are these changes environment based or are the team colours in a skirmish type scenario?

I would say so, the Vasari ships look kinda organic, with nice smooth flowing curves. The other ships definitely don't look Advent because they're colouring is too grey, so they must be TEC ships, but I've never seen them before. Once again the whole "update the damn race info section" complaint resurfaces.

yes, seriously.

and besides, the ones on the left have to be TEC, they are way too chunky/industrial looking.

They are TEC and Vasari, just the Vasari ships aren't colored red.

are you absolutely certain they couldnt be Advent?
who knows.

thats what i had in mind that the ship on the right might be a different colored type of advent ship. i think its time for the dev to step in and say who they are to be sure. not mistakenly no doubt that the boxy looking ships are the tec for the type of cargo looking ships they resemble an economic cargo look :_).

Just look in the races info, while the ships are smooth, they still have that style of Vasari. Look at the front of the smooth ships, it looks more like the ship on the Vasari's race info pic. Even with this thought, it still makes me wonder if It could be Advent. I think we do need the devs to step in and tell us which ship is which.

In this screenshot it has those curvy ships fighting alongside the boxy early TEC ships.I think it is the most advanced TEC ship after TEC changed to a war economy..

I can't say which ship is which because it would be giving out to much but I can answer some of the other questions.

If the ship looks like heavy gray metal, chunky, industrial or economic it is TEC. If it looks elegant, sleek or majestic and shiney it is probably Advent and if it is dark, 'scarab'-like with glowey parts with some weird protrusions or wing like structures it is probably Vasari.

W/r to colors. Each race has certain sections of the ship that are colored by the team color. However, the materials each race use for their ship construction is affected differently by a number of factors in the environment (e.g, the star, the skybox etc). The TEC rough metals aren't so reflective so the environment doesn't affect it much, but a shiney Advent ship is very much affected. What you also aren't seeing is how the colors change dynamically as the ships/camera move about. (If you look for it in the trailer you won't find it - this wasn't implemented until after)

your still working on visuals? do you plan on letting anyone run this on a NORMAL computer???

I think a free computer upgrade should be part of Sins warranty

no kidding.

That was less of a statement and more of a hint...

Depends what you consider normal, now a days a normal PC would be a 2+ ghz dual core something with a Direct X9 256Mb video card with Shader 3.0 or better , and at least 1 GB of system ram, running XP

still wont be enough
and a dual core? I dont think so.

You might not be able to run it at full but im sure medium or low would do just fine.

If you guys could run Nexus (minus the full-screen glow option, which is just horrible lag), then this so far shouldn't be a problem.

wooo hooo I can run nexus, with the full screen glow option!

Nexus didn't have anywhere near the amount of ships on screen as Sins does.I would not be so confident, yet.

Lol... Well if the beta doesn't run well I foresee this game costing me a hefty PC upgrade. 8800gts?

Sins runs quite nicely actually. At home I run it on a P4 3GHz machine with 2.6GB RAM on a Radeon X850XT 256MB video card. That's with all the graphics maxed at 1280x1024 (it will run at 1600x1200).  That's a 3+ year old PC, so I suspect most gamers won't have any trouble.

Apparently someone hasn't reached the latter missions!

You are right but I think it'll still hold up quite well, as Yarlen demonstrates. Don't be so graphiphobic.

There years old really? With 3 ghz? and 2.6 GB? must of been pricey back then though.

Yes, but I was running a PC gaming magazine back then too. So I had access to the latest and greatest stuff.

I'm looking at building a new PC later this year that will make my current system seem very slow. Right now I'm aiming for a Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR3 RAM (maybe 4GB), 1TB HD space (2 HD - 1 for boot, the other for everything else); GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB, Sound Blaster X-Fi (already own).  It'll all depend on what tech's available at the time. I'm willing to wait for the new PCI-E spec boards to come out, for DDR3 RAM, and for the faster FSB motherboards.
