Small Community Project -> Skinnable System meters via DesktopX

At the momement I am doing a skinnable system meter for DesktopX as I thought about how to solve the 'problem' of the flood of weather and sysmeter objects in the library (don't wanna flood myself, wehen I do a system meter fitting the visual style I use). So I made an object that reads skinnames from an ini-file and then applies the skin via a dropdown in the object properties.

So far I have ported :

Ares
Argos
Aura
Azenis2
Eminence
HeavyEquipment
Rewind
Silica
SimpleGlass

(Will have to ask for permission for some of them yet.)

Anyone wanting to join me and create a graphic from his own skin or a skin-independent one ? I will gladly send You the specs needed. Of curse all "skin authors" will be fully credited.

Does the object pull skin elements from an installed skin or is it all new graphics? I'm missing something I think.

If it pulls elements, BRILLIANT! (and why are permissions needed?) If not . . what exactly is it doing again? It is an object that has its own "skinning engine" and needs skins in that format?

If You look at my gallery You will see a lot of sysmeters in there (same goes for weather objects in the dx gallery only differing by the background bitmap). I want to add them all into one single widget with semi-flexible skins (they have to have a certain width and height format and a fixed content area to be able to tile them vertically). It is not the next great thing, but nevertheless maybe interesting for some people if only as an example how to make 'one widget fits all'.

So it's new graphics. I think grabbing portions of an existing skin and fitting them together is a little bit complex for a widget and vbscript.

I'm all for removing ALL of the near duplicate objects in the galleries.

If a skinner used your format for the graphics they could ignore the engine then? It's be a "plug-in" "skin" for your engine (object)?

Interesting

Well, I think You see it 'to professional'. It's a very basic thing and I still have to fiddle with some problems (how can You change the bar-graphic or bar-color of the dx performance plugin via script for example ?). I will soon post an example of what it intends to be...

If it turns out anything like cerebroJD's "skinnable" WMP skin,it will be fantastic.

Hey IR. Link?

Even if that is unworkable, skinners could work within the format and upload skins for it using your template and linking to your widget.

I will try to get all permissions needed today and release a 1st beta-version to let You see how it works.

Well, the problem still is missing permissions... I believe a big percentage of my mails didn't go through spam-filters and never arrived. Don't know what to do at the momement... As I have global permissions of MikeB and Treetog, I will concentrate on their skins as a first step.

Request? Net in / Net out meter(s)?

Later, let me first test the thing some days. Also a DX Bug (Preferences not stored correctly) holds me from release.
