Have a serving of Meat Loaf with that classic rewind

Thank you Sirius!

{ music notes } You took the words right outta my mouth... { music notes }

Ah, happy days, even if the weather is dreary and the skies are a bit grey.

Some readers might recall some earlier happiness with a "classic Rock/Pop music" channel on XM that I had been listening to (their Big Tracks channel).  This article is in praise of Sirius' version of same, and somewhat a negative comment on XM's channel.

I'm lovin' the Sirius station that plays "music from my generation", their Classic Rewind station. There was a similar themed station for XM but I swear they used the shortest friggin' playlist known to man. As bad as, or worse than, any commercial station I've ever listened to.

You see, I loves me some music, but I get very tired of hearing the same songs by the same artists over and over. We have an oldies station here in the D.C. area (Arrow, Classic Rock, WARW-FM 94.7 near D.C.) that has over done the same 15 - 20 artists so badly that I just can't stand to listen to the station and almost don't want to listen to the artists any more. Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, The Beatles, Jethro Tull, and a few others. It seems like 15 - 20, maybe worse than that (down to 10 - 15), artists that you hear the same songs from.

I love Springsteen's music (hate his politics, but love his music) -- to the point of having just about every song in his library in some form or another -- like Clapton, Aerosmith, The Beatles, the Stones, etc., but how about a little Rush, some Journey, Styx (especially them!!!), Triumph, Steve Winwood, Genesis, Dire Straights, Meat Loaf, Eddie Money, and a bunch of others?!? And how about giving me more than just the same 2 - 3 songs by those people. They normally had a lot more tunes than that, so give me some I don't hear regularly. That's why I would be listening to your station, right?

Well, it seems (to me at least) that Sirius is better at the game than their competition -- either XM, or especially commercial radio stations.

I'm back to happier results from my listening now, and really liking it. As I climbed back into my car, Starbucks in hand, and prepared to finish my drive into work this a.m., I had the pleasure of hearing one of my favorite Meat Loaf tunes (though there are several tunes he's done that I like so picking a favorite isn't easy). Again, happy days.

... continued from main article.

As if you can't tell from the article here, I've switched my primary Sat-Rad (satellite radio) listening over to Sirius for the time being.  Somewhat because of frustration with the seemingly shallower playlists on XM, somewhat for exclusive content that Sirius has that XM doesn't (NASCAR moved to Sirius as of January 1, 2007, leaving XM completely,  along with Howard Stern/Bubba the love sponge, and some other exclusives that Sirius has).

I still have XM, but I'm finding I'm just not that interested in turning on my XM receiver or popping over to their web site to listen from there.  Perhaps in a few months I'll be bored with the music mix on Sirius, but I think I've always found them to be a bit better about going deeper in their play lists.  Something I really appreciate.

Anyway, for now I'm very happy with Sirius and at least until baseball season (when I might get more use out of XM, who holds the MLB exclusive) that will probably remain the case.

When I seen the title of your article I decided to stop by since I made meat loaf last night. Then when I started reading your article I realized you were talking about Meat Loaf the singer. I almost left like "A Bat Out of Hell", but then I see you were talking about Sirius radio. So I continued reading. I like Sirius, too. I like the classic rewind station and Howard Stern, not NASCAR though. But. hey, "Two Out of Three Ain't Bad".

That's funny. I have XM at home and work with a friend that has a Sirius "boom-box" at work and at least with the music I listen to (modern rock, alternative), XM has the deeper playlists, by far. I don't want to start a Coke / Pepsi, Mc Donalds / Burger King, Target / Wal-Mart battle here, but as far as my listening tastes go, XM is the better option. Since they are the #1 Satellite radio provider, I guess I am not alone in my opinion.
