how many ship classes?

Just curious, I don't remember reading this anywhere, but I was curious about how many different ship classes (fighter, destroyer, etc.) there'll be? I figure you don't wanna tell exactly the # ships, but how many categories?
Please tell me none of them contain just 1 ship like Heavy Cruiser class in HW...huh? you'd think if they designed a class of ship they'd make a couple different variants.

We dont know yet, if you look in lore there are a few ships and then missing pics of other ships to come, but no quantity has yet been stated.

I wish they would release more info though.

The amount of spaces indicates that it should be ~13 ships per race...
But don't quote me on that. They could easily add more/not fill up all the spaces.

it should at least be 13 per race. otherwise the game gets too simple.

There are 3 classes fighters, frigates and capital ships according to the interviews I have read.

yeah, and we know there are 3 fighters.
there should be at least 6 cap ships, at least 2 large ones, 3 smaller ones and the flagship, ah the flagship.
as for frigs? I think there should be quite a few models, considering these are probably going to be the meat and spacepotatoes of any fleet.

Hopefully they can let you design your own ships, or provide modding tech so you can make your own.

This games more big think lareger skale, though 2 types of bombers is possible, dont see the point though unless they get special skills.

I wonder if smaller ships will become obsolete in late stage of game

I seriously doubt it for three reasons:
1. As they gain experience they get upgraded and such so they will grow more powerful.
2. You are going to have more of them than the big ships. They are less expensive so you can build hordes of them.
3. Special abilities. Some smaller ships may have useful special abilities that the bigger ships don't have.

And fighters, of course, will never be obsolete because your capital ships produce them so the more cap ships you have then the more fighters you have.

i agree with wedge. i'd hate to see few of my surviving capital ships sitting ducks for making a bombers feast feista!

well, you could have a light and a heavy bomber, one quick but with less payload for attacking frigates and a heavy and slow one for BS.

See the small ships like fighters wont be fully independent. They will carried by carriers and the carriers will give them orders as well as support them. Now, i have read that you can take control of each squad individually and give them orders but that just adding a lot more micro. They will always be useful because a few bombers can take down whole capitals and fighters can take those bombers down a lot more easier than caps can.
