Understanding Drengin.net

So I'm planning to buy GalCiv (Of course I am, why else would be lurking on this forum) and while I was browsing the internet looking for GalCiv info, I stumbled across a demo for The Corporate Machine. Well, the Corporate Machine is a cool game and I'm considering purchasing it. I noticed that one of my options was to purchase a year's subscription to "Drengin.net". (Which seems to also include GalCiv)

My understanding is that if I buy Drengin.net, then I'll be able to download the Corporate Machine immediately and when GalCiv comes out in a week I'll be able to download that too. So my understanding is that subscribing to "Drengin.net" is just like purchasing both The Corporate Machine and the direct download version of GalCiv.

Except that if I were to purchase GalCiv for direct download from StarDock, then I'd be able to pay 5-10 dollars extra and get a CD shipped to me. (Where as it seems if I purchase a subscription to Drengin.net I get no such option). It seems that since GalCiv is so large (much larger than The Corporate Machine) it would be well worth it to get the CD shipped to me instead of having to download all the multimedia.

So at the moment it seems clear to me that I should buy The Corporate Machine and GalCiv seperately, because that way I can play The Corporate Machine now and get GalCiv shipped to me. This seems in all ways superior to subscribing to Drengin.net.

So my question is: Is my understanding correct? Is it clearly advantageous to buy GalCiv and The Corporate Machine seperately or is there some benefit of "Drengin.net" that I don't understand?

Thanks a lot,
- Matt Lepinski :->

People who have subcribed to Drengin.Net will have the option to get a GalCiv CD sent to them come next week (when GalCiv is officially released.) So, if you want both, I suggest getting Drengin.Net. I think you end up saving about 15 bucks, and if you have kids in the house you get Lightweight Ninja, which seems to really appeal to the younger crowd. :)

Since I need to be pinching pennies right now, and I already have TCM, I think I'll buy it separately... but maybe I'll subscribe for The Political Machine or GalCiv 2 when they come out. :)

I think there will be some upgrades to GalCiv that only Drengin.net subscribers will get in the future.

It would be a pity if people who purchased the game were unable to continue to upgrade it, just because they were not Drengin subscribers. :sniff!:
This seems to contradict everything that Brad has said about rewarding legitimate customers for purchasing the game. >:(

Why? I paid more for Drengin.net. And I didn't say others wouldn't get upgrades - Brad has said they would. I just think Drengin.net subscribers will get access to more.

Grifman - Are you sure about that? I hadn't seen any mention of content differing depending on buying the game straight or through Drengin, so was wondering if you had heard something new.

Thought the whole point of Drengin was to have access to all of Stardock's games, not to necessarily get more content on them. All of the extras for TCM are available to everyone for example.

Those who buy GalCiv (ONLY GalCiv) will recive ALL updates wich comes to GalCiv. The Drengin.net buyers will recive the same + updates for other programs..
So dont worry, those who get GalCiv will also get ALL the updates for GalCiv.
