Question on fleet commanders? and other fleet based questions

My understanding is that there will be fleet commanders in SoaSE so my question is this - Do fleet commanders work like they do in Rome Total War where they will gain experience for each battle or do they simply act as a wsy to represent the AI fleet management within the game?

Futermore, Will Fleet commanders occupy a specific ship? thus making going after whatever ship the commander is on a worthy goal... This also could introduce some intresting events in a fleet battle such as a new commander (from perhaps an experienced unit) taking over the fleet..

Is there morale in battles or will ships simply fight to there death without any regard for self-preservation?

Can fleets be named and will the AI automaticly name them?

Can multiple fleets form an armada?

thats it for now thanks for the answers.

Dunno if the fleet commander will be present, but would be nice though.

As i remember then yes, they can be named.
They will have a default name as in this pic
Scout frigat

But if your thinking like Scout frigat #1, #2, #3 then i dunno.

Can multiple fleets form an armada?

I quote what Blair have said
There is no limit to how many ships you can bring into a battle around a planet

hope i helped

Ok one thing i dont want to see , is crap like this. 400 ships , 40 planets to manage , stick 10 ships on each planet.

What i want is 40 planets , 4 fleets of 100 ships , unprotected planets , a need for fleets to be able to strategically protect.

So basically what advantages do fleets have over just small groups.
Firstly there should be something in game that recognises when something is a fleet. I think a good advantage is if an enemy ship dies , your whole fleet gains expierence points. 10% of exp for all ships for example and 100% for the one that kills

P5y just a quick obvious one - the 10 ships at each planet you own scenario wouldn't work simple due to the fact that if your forces are evenly distributed among each planet you control and your facing an enemy of about equal strength odds are that when they attack they'll group a bunch of ships together to attack a planet - thus pummeling your evenly distributed forces.

Well, not necessarily. When he sends in one big blob you might be able to jump fleets from your 10 closest planets to defend that planet then jump fleets from 6 others to his various planets that were left undefended when he massed his ships.

There's probably a balance to be found in there. What it is, I can only speculate. You're probably going to devote more defensive resources to planets that are closer to the enemy and planets that are more valuable. But I don't really know for sure. I just think that it's a little premature to rule out anything since we haven't even played the game yet.

truth is that we can speculate all we want here, but we wont know until we see how fast the forces move.

There will be fleet commanders, these guys are AI opperated and while you arent mangaing the battle they will do it for you. They pick the best targets to destroy and the ships they should try to protect on your own side.

Second, there is experience i think, the ships will become more powerful the more battles they are in. But dont quote me on that.

I dont know about moral, but i know that things can either have a default name our you could make the name whatever you want.

Hope that helped

we can, because there will be experience. I'm 99.995% sure that the devs have said so.

also, there won't be moral in the game, I think I brought it up before, and t doesn't excist, it doesn't fit with the scale of the game.

I believe Startrek Armada generated automatic names for every ship, of coursem you would build maybe 400 games in a match, not tens of thousands.

Well each ship class will have a name probably, and then as you feel like it you could most likely give the ships of fleets nicknames.
