Is there any reason to purchase the boxed set? Will there be anything in it that is substantial (manual, tech layout, etc.)?

I think there are some pictures of the blowup doll at Frogboy's home webpage. It looks sort of life like. My understanding is that it is partially automatronic and will post to forums at all hours of the night for you once it is setup.

And you can put the box next to the one you got when buying MOO3, to constantly remind you about the differences in marketing approach: shipping an unfinished and unbalanced game versus shipping a very well tested and upgraded game, at the same time being able to directly dl a bonuspack as an appreciation for the fact you indeed paid for the game.

I'm gathering then, that the answer is possibly "no"... (but there was some wavering in a few of those posts).

Cost isn't the issue. It's $45 to download versus $43.30 at the local gaming store (after tax). Wee.

It would be cool if they added something to the box that you might not get from the download, maybe extra art or a behind the scenes thing.

I trinket like an alien skull keychain or maybe an extra nice tech chart? Hmmmm....
