Finally, after the feast of Thanksgiving was over and a visit from their paternal grandma on that day, which was wonderful for the kids since it's been a while since they saw her.

My daughters and I went to the mall on Friday afternoon, yes, afternoon, no mad shopping for me thank you! Although we went because my oldest was looking for a jacket and she found a really nice one too!

On Sunday, we dressed the tree! While the kids worked on unraveling the lights with some guidance from me, and of course lots of soothing of hurt feelings because my son and his younger sister are always competing, I decorated everywhere else.


This is the end result of our tree this year!

Amanda had to be in the picture so this is what a part of the tree looks like! Our tree is a combination of blue lights, lots of blue because we love it, hand made decorations, angels, bows, and other trinkets! Mandy couldn't understand why she didn't have any handmade decoration on the tree. We had to reassure her that next year she will when she goes to Kindergarten!

The top of the tree. My hubby lifted Mandy up so she could put the star on the top. She enjoyed doing that! You can see the tree a lot clearer in this photo.





This was our 2005 Christmas tree. It's in the corner this year and not in the center as this one was. And you know who was in that picture too!LOL!

The tree looks absolutely beautiful

Being something of a nomad for the past 7 or 8 years, I have not had a Christmas tree. I remember as a kid how much of a family event it was setting up the tree and trimming it out. When we had all just about finished with the decorations, the eldest son, which would be me, would be hoisted up to place the star on the treetop. One of my first memories of the "real" Christmas spirit was when I declined to place the star on the tree, and let my younger brother have the honor. I have some really wonderful memories of Christmas trees with my family.

Thanks for the pics. There is nothing more enlightening for me than to see children beaming with happiness and pride next to a Christmas tree they have just so creatively garnished.

I love the different types of ornaments, but my wife only wants balls. Oh well, compromise.  I will try to get a picture of mine up soon.

My favorite Christmas Trees are the ones with colored lights and the odd assortment of ornaments collected over the years.  My tree growing up essentially told a story of our family over time.  Theme trees, with bows, white lights and matching ornaments are very pretty and all, but they just don't have that same personal touch, the same warmth and feel.

Yes, I love those too Mike! My kids have made different ornaments, at least the two older ones which we still put on the tree. They actually enjoy seeing them and gushed about them more noticeably this year!

No they don't, they're pretty, but naw, not like the ones we're talking about!

I wish I could show my tree, but I don't have a camera around. (If you read this Santa, I am eyeing a digital one, okay?)

I can describe it though: Fake douglas fir, 6ft. It is trimmed with silvery white transparent bows, red velvet bows, ornament balls of all colors, candy canes, various ornaments of snowmen, sleds, santas, reindeer, gold/white garland, with a big bright star at the top.

The highlights of the tree for me are a sterling silver- like angel and a new nativity scene I just got, which is set up underneath the tree. I am trying to look for a porcelain snowflake ornament a student got for me last year. It's so pretty. I hope I find it.

I also have my table, stair railing, front door, and walls decorated...and have my Homer Simpson Santa out. One of his songs is, "Deck the halls with Buddy Holly..." lol
