I’ll Always Love You
Album: Tell It To My Heart
Year: 1988
Taylor Dayne marries her boyfriend in the sickening ballad “I’ll Always Love You.”
Mushy synths open the single, setting an overdone tone. In the first verse, she says she will love him until the moment she leaves the earth. He remembers what she likes and walks in a charming manner that caused her to fall for him. He stood by her when she thought she couldn’t find a job. He makes her laugh with corny jokes and goofy gestures. She loves him, despite the fact he may leave his clothes on a wet floor or put ketchup in his soup. He has helped belong in the world and the epitome of the person she always wanted to have. He’s the most important person in her life.
In the chorus, she says their relationship is solid and they won’t become a statistic. He’s her best friend and someone she knows that will give her the love she wants.
A soppy saxophone solo follows.
In the second verse, she says he excites her whenever he touches her. His love fills her with much joy.
In the chorus, she says it’s imperative he know how much she appreciates him. He can to talk to her whenever he needs to and will help him with anything he needs.
In the final section, she says she’s glad she knows him. She will never stop loving him.
It’s Dayne’s most perfect day – marrying the love of her life. Her vows came to her easily. She knew exactly what she wanted to say. To share her words with him as well as their friends and family is a thrill. There will be many more wonderful days ahead of them.
Her rich, spacious vocals are lovesome and blessed. Her extraordinary range shows to be graceful and womanly, hardly overpowering the music at all.
The matrimonial arrangement gushes an excessive flow of sentimentality. It drenches the song, washing away any heart the single would’ve had.
The overwrought “I’ll Always Love You” is done in by its soapiness.
