Fergalicious
Album: The Dutchess
Year: 2006
Fergie shows off her toned body in the cheeky “Fergalicious.”
In the intro, a man starts the song by counting backwards in Spainsh. Will.I.Am announces that his mashed up beats are awesome. For the first time ever, he’s right.
In the first verse the sample from J. J. Fad’s 1980 hit “Supersonic” begins. She says when she’s hot, she’s ‘fergalicious.’ For her, it means the guys will stare at her. They cut pictures from magazines and masturbate to it. She’s a mirage to them. She says that despite her hypersexuality in photos, she’s not trampy in real life. She likes to flirt for fun.
In the pre-chorus, she insists she doesn’t sleep around. She tells people if they read anything about her having sex in bathroom with random men, it’s false. She likes to attract men’s attention by blowing kisses but it’s as far as it goes. The men are satisfied simply for even catching her eye and looking at her body.
In the chorus, the Afro-Ricans sample “Give You All I Got” plays. She says she’s scrumptious.
In the second verse, the song returns to the J.J. Fad sample again. The beats skip and then echo. She says male strangers walk up to her on the street, calling her by her real name (Stacy), which freaks her out about. To them, she’s Fergie, the hottest pop star right now.
In the second pre-chorus, she says she stays in shape. She goes to the gym to work out. She adds that Will.I.Am. can vouch for her. It’s how she remains appealing to men.
In the chorus, Fergie takes command of the beat.
In the bridge, she says in order for men to get her, they have to get to know her and not be aggressive. She says if she likes him, she’ll let them kiss her. She’ll have ecstasy on her tongue, which will drive the men wild. Will.I.Am (mis)spells the word “tasty” and then tells her to rap. She raps that men are always checking out her butt. She tells women she can’t help that she’s beautiful. She’s not out to steal any woman’s man. She realizes she’s sounding boastful. She’s a product, not a consumer.
The third pre-chorus is sung again.
The third chorus is sung again. Fergie adds in “aye’s.”
In the final section, Will.I.Am (mis)spells the word tasty again.
Fergie sells her image and separates it from her real persona. She knows men who listen to her or view her pictures. She realizes they want to have sex with her. She then says it’s an image and the celebrity they want, not Stacy Ferguson. Men who address her by her real name are shunned for confusing reality with marketing.
Fergie’s self-aware, assured vocals are blunt and centered. She’s worked on her enuciation, saying each word in a clear manner. Her rapping has also improved. It’s quicker and stronger than it was in “My Humps.”
The mashed-up arrangement samples two hip-hop songs from the 80s and merges them into one, without any tangles or disruptions. The beats break and skip, skimming over the polished samples.
The addictive "Fergalicious" is absolutely absurd and crazy but it won't leave listener's heads for a long time.

“Fergalicious (Fergalicious)/But I ain't promiscuous/And if you was suspicious/All that shit is fictitious/I blow kisses (mmmwwahhh)/That puts them boys on rock, rock/And they be lining down the block just to watch what I got (four, tres, two, uno).”
