Why Women dress like Sluts

On the drive home one evening last week I was listening to the radio, nope, can't tell you which one, sorry (don't remember), the on air radio dj said something that made me laugh really hard. He said there is a study out that states why women dress the way they do. When a woman dresses slutty, it's because she's in heat, or ovulating. I've tried to find the info on the web but couldn't.


He then went on to say that even if a woman is not very good looking, once she's in heat, she will wear the sexiest clothing that will make her look good and be very appealing to most men! Men somehow sense that phermone?


OK, I laughed because the picture that came to my mind was the way animals behave when they are in heat! What if this was the way we humans behaved? I think it would be a riot, literally and figuratively, if men went around sniffing women's behind and the women either clubbed the male and carried them off, had their way then killed them! Good grief, what an image!


I think that study needs to be redone! Then again, who knows if there is some truth to it. There are moments that some women will look really appealing and attractive because of how they carry themselves. I do have my good days and bad days of dressing. There are some times when the attention is so much it made me wonder if I really 'looked' at myself in the mirror or did something changed?! Hmmm, something to ponder!LOL! But nope, no slutty dressing!


Although lately I've been wondering at some of the outfits I see these younger women wearing! Also, I do wonder though what about those women who are just constantly dressed this way? What did or would the study say about them? I'm not talking about an attractive woman dressing nicely, even if she does have on a figure hugging outfit, I'm talking those who really, really don't think before they go outside or those who participate in contests like the attached link. Link This does make me wonder what she could possibly be thinking!

Well now, serenity,  I'm on the last leg of my 50's so I haven't "dressed slutty" lately..

however then again I never have!  and I have two children so I have ovulated at least 3 times in my life...

Seriously,  I think dressing like a slut is all about getting attention to satisfy a lack of healthy self-esteem...

Women with healthy self-esteem,  even if they're "not all that" look fantastic if they're happy and are good people,  that shows through from their hearts..ya know?

P.S. 

I don't think that ovulating has ANYTHING to do with dressing slutty.  However,  in the privacy of our own bedrooms,  with a loved one,  ovulating does tend to ahhhhhh...increase our libido  

Just my 2 cents worth.

I think they just put it this way to grab attention. I found the article which I linked above in my previous response. {I'm having trouble doing edits to the article itself.} Since the article I found used the word 'fertile' I guess it's more like women who are looking for a mate dresses more seductively! This is a much better way of putting it!

I actually read that study on Yahoo a couple of days ago. I think it's true, but the article didn't use the word "slutty" and to use that word is simply to sensationalize the article.

Women tend to want to look nicer and sexier (which doesn't have to mean slutty) when ovulating. I read somewhere that women's pheromones are spread by smell (airborne?) while men tend to get there's around through physical touch. This could be a reason that revealing skin happens around that point in the cycle-- get your pheremones out!

Still, the whole looking "sexier" as revealing skin thing would depend on personal style and comfort level, cultural and personal values and perhaps the amount of alcohol one has consumed.

Barbara Kingsolver wrote about this in her novel Prodigal Summerand it does make sense to me. Not that we're completely animals just satisfying our lust but that we are more attractive to men when we are ovulating. Whether it's conscious or not we do probably dress to attract at that time of the month. It's hard a woman to admit but our cycles do affect us. The problem is that all the time we're trying to overcome the whole "why are you acting that way, is it your time of the month", "we can't have a woman president because she'll start a nuclear war when she's PMS'ing". Oh that's just so irritating. But biologically, definately we are different at different times in our cycle.

That book is excellent by the way but I think all of her books are wonderful. I especially loved the Poisonwood Bible.

Actually, the article didn't, the radio dj did. I mentioned that. That's why I laughed and couldn't believe he said that. I unfortunately can't link a stream to that particular station or the episode when they had the discussion. If you've listened to radio djs you know how they talk.
