Who's WHO of Sins..

The cast of characters...

Sins of a Solar Empire is a game conceived and developed by Ironclad Games. Ironclad is a game development studio located Vancouver Canada.

Stardock Entertainment is the publisher. It is most recently known for developing and publishing Galactic Civilizations II.

So how did we meet? What's the story?  Ironclad has an incredibly cool game in development. I've spent a lot of time playing it -- more time than I really should but that's another story!   There will be a lot of analogies used to try to explain what it's like but to me, it reminds me of what Total Annihilation might have been like in space but with a lot of diplomatic and economic features as well.

It's technically a "real time" strategy game but unlike most RTS's, this one really isn't about who can click around on things the most. It plays a lot like a traditional 4X game where the winner is not the guy who is the best mouse jockey but the player that can develop the best overall strategy.

Anyway, how did we meet? Ironclad was looking for someone to publish their game.  Someone who could publish their game at retail as well as digitally.  Galactic Civilizations II has already sold a couple hundred thousand copies worldwide in only 8 months -- most of those copies sold at your local retailer.  Because of Stardock's experience in marketing, advertising, and publishing space strategy games, we and Ironclad were a perfect fit.

With our combined talents, we hope to deliver a game that will really stand the test of time as a truly unique gaming experience.  Stay tuned!

If Draginol/Frogboy/Brad says this game looks good and has decided to publish, that's good enough for me, even if I have to wait to buy a new computer to play the darn thing.

The concept looks great, and like many of the others here, if Stardock's involved, I find myself reflexively preparing to get rid of some "excess" money to acquire the new addition to my gaming library. I look forward to seeing how Stardock and Ironclad blend styles on this game.

Just want to throw in that I've had a little bit of time with an early build, and I gotta say... the game rocks and I'm pretty damn excited about what is being worked on!

And I know you'll just say "Oh, he's a Stardock employee... he has to say that"  Nope!  I honestly think the game is going to rock, and if you're a fan of games like GalCiv 2, MoO2, Homeworld, the Imperium Galactica series etc, I'm pretty confident you'll like it too

Preorders will begin well before the beta, since only those who preorder the game direct will be able to participate in the beta program.

No pre-ordering yet. We hope to have that set up in the next week or two.

That should mean pretty soon. The quote is from frogboy's orginal welcome.

I have the unofficial download that came with this forum account, but I havent officialy registered with stardock. do I have to *really* dish out 70$ just so I can preorder and beta test? or will it just be enough with the edition I have?

*cringes slightly*
personally, as long as stardock doesnt go stomping all over IC's toes, feet, computers, office and ideas, I'm all for this, but if I start seeing new ideas leak in that dont fit with the original concept of the game. . .
well, lets just hope that doesnt happen

Totalgaming != Stardock != Stardock Central. All these things may be confusing at first but you'll get them down.

All you need right now is SDC and a forum account. You log into SDC with your forum account, no purchases required. At the moment all you'll have access to there are shareware/demo versions of out products and a few freebies.

When the preorders are opened up, you'll just need to pop over to the TGN website (if we don't put up a preorder page here that is), and go through the process to order the game. A temporary hold may be put on your card but otherwise you won't actually be charged a cent until the game is released. You will also probably be able to preorder using TGN tokens if you already have a TGN subscription and sufficient tokens, but that's not at all neccessary, just another option.

I look forward to seeing how Stardock and Ironclad blend styles on this game.

IC is developing the game themselves and are the final authority on what goes into it. Our involvement is largely confined to the website, marketing, and sales aspects, AFAIK.

The "unofficial" stardock central is what I have. You can order anything you want with a plain old credit card on it. You do NOT have to get the Totalgaming.net package... Its only useful for buying multiple games. If you do buy anything, you can just stick the serial in SDC.

Its really a great system stardock!

No, 70$ is for having 10 tokens. Which means 30% rebate since the conversion between game price and corresponding tokens is at 1 token for 10$. So the game will cost between 4 and 5 tokens, depending if the retail price will be 39$ or 49 $

But as others have stated, the totalgaming.net package is only useful if you plan to buy others games available on totalgaming.net or that you know that will be available on it.

I have to say... this is really good news.
seriously, too many games have been ruined because a publisher demands a developer spam crappy games instead of making quality ones. I'm really happy that IC has latched onto a publisher who sees the bigger picture.
this is getting better all the time
