The Look
Album: Look Sharp!
Year: 1988
Per Gessle is enthralled by an attractive woman in the captivated “Look.”
Admiring guitars open the single, setting a fascinated tone. In the first verse, he says that she keeps her hands to her sides while her hips remain in place. With a short glance in his direction, she is able to stop him cold and grab his attention. He says people are easily taken in by her charm and smile. He’s known her to continue to stand up for herself and take every step to achieve her dreams. He’s brushed against her milky skin and says she’s angel sent down from heaven. Around her, the simple things become vibrant. She’s famished, like a wolf, for a passionate love.
In the chorus, he says she usually has a sullen expression. He’s concerned about her, wondering what is causing her to frown. He says he is willing to talk and offer her comfort, if she would turn to him. He’s in a daze, forgetting about the people walking by him and whatever he has to do.
In the second verse, he says she’s volcanic, full of heat and desire, melting away the coldness she faces. She’s raw and wounded. To him, it means she’s trying to hide her emotions. He says she’s whimsical and will pound away to her own beat. She fights for every bit of life she has. She feels music deeply and is ambitious. She can solve any problem and gives helpful advice. In her opinion, love is something complex and inspired. Affection is a necessary nutrient to it.
The chorus is sung again.
A mesmerized guitar solo follows.
In the bridge, he repeats part of the first verse.
The chorus is sung again.
In the second chorus, he finally talks to her and asks her what’s wrong.

“ 1-2-3-4/Walking like a man/Hitting like a hammer/She's a juvenile scam/Never was a quitter/Tasty like a raindrop, she's got the look/Heavenly bound’ cause heaven's got a number/When she's spinning me around/Kissing is a colour,her loving is a wild dog/She's got the look.”
In the chorus, he says she usually has a sullen expression. He’s concerned about her, wondering what is causing her to frown. He says he is willing to talk and offer her comfort, if she would turn to him. He’s in a daze, forgetting about the people walking by him and whatever he has to do.
“She's got the look/She's got the look/What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue/When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you/And I go: la la la la la/She's got the look.”

“Fire in the ice, naked to the T-bone/Is a lover's disguise/Banging on the head drum, shaking like a mad bull/She's got the look/Swaying to the band, moving like a hammer/She's a miracle man/Loving is the ocean/Kissing is the wet sand/She's got the look.”
The chorus is sung again.
A mesmerized guitar solo follows.
In the bridge, he repeats part of the first verse.
“Walking like a man/Hitting like a hammer/She's a juvenile scam/Never was a quitter/Tasty like a raindrop, she's got the look/And she goes: na na na na na na na na/She’s got the look.”
The chorus is sung again.
In the second chorus, he finally talks to her and asks her what’s wrong.
“What in the world can make you so blue/When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you/And I go: la la la la la.”
A short pause follows.
Then, the last part of the bridge is sung twice to close the single.“And she goes: na na na na na na na na/She’s got the look/ And she goes: na na na na na na na na/She’s got the look.”
Gessle cannot stop thinking the woman he’s seen walking the city. From what he’s heard from friends and acquaintances, is that she’s a intense woman focused on her career. She’s doesn’t let anything get in her way. Although she acts tough, she’s rather vulnerable. She’s someone he wants in his life.
His husky, keen vocals are curious and bewitched by the presence of her. One conversation is all he would like. He wants to know what makes her tick and be her trusted confidant. Marie Fredriksson’s contribution is mostly harmony. However, her envying vocals are standout. She wants to learn how to be the woman and wishes she could change places. Even in her limited time, she’s able to give the single a continous amount of spirit.
The heedful arrangement holds its gaze, engrossed in the beauty and personality of the woman.
The fervent “Look” is a focused, energetic pop song.
