It would be nice if the old forums were preserved somehow, because I can feel all the same questions coming up for the third time....

but i'll join in the cheering WHIIIEEEH!!!

yeah, maybe *crosses fingers* the new questions wont be so damn back-and-forth like they were in the last forum

I feel that we can get a lot more out of this forum by wiping it clean

besides, no people new to forums would even bother going thru 6K posts. (a thread)

The old forum is still up at http://www.ironcladgames.com/sins/forums/, though I have no idea how long Blair plans to keep it there.

It might be a good idea to pick through the old forums (while they're still up!) and dig out common questions for a FAQ based on developer answers. Might save some trouble, provided people actually read the FAQ... my experiences on other boards leads me to believe it's hard to get people to read stickies

Yeah, but those who really want to come up to speed quickly undestand the value of a FAQ. For you guy who have been involved in the past, take a cut a creating a FAQ of what you believe are the most important questions and answers.

it has some sentimental value for us...

anyway, a word of wisdom from the wise: use the SEARCH FEATURE. you wont find anything else without it.

indeed, the forum is a great excersize in off-topic talking. Well this one is sort of turning that way to (this was about publishers) hopefully some mods will keep us track (and by "us" i mean schem )

just kidding.

my spamming abilities are vastly overrated here

you spammed a lot to alcari =_=

One of the people from the old forum should make a FAQ. Since Schematicsninja seems to have way too much time... hint hint.

wraith, for every post I've made, you've had 2 to say I spend all my time spamming...

wait... are you some old forumite with a new name...
yeah. I figured.

Actually I am not.

This thread really has gotten off topic. Anyone have anything good/bad about SD?
Since this was supposed to be about publishers, not spam wars.

Well, they did Galciv 1 & 2, that went ok afaik.

other then that, you may need someone who's more into it, as I simply got galvic from the shelve, not online as I still want to have a shiny box

GalCiv2 distribution gets a thumbs up from me. It was in all of the major retailers (even places like EB, with their pitiful PC game section), and the digital distribution was even better. It was painless to install, updates are about as easy as you could hope for, and copy protection is almost non-existent - just a serial number you associate with your account. They'll even mail you a boxed copy to go along with your digital one at no extra charge (just S&H).

I don't mean to come off as a fanboy, that's just my genuine opinion of the whole experience. I'm praising them because buying GalCiv2 and applying updates to it have been a genuinely pleasant experience. Things like Steam have given digital distribution a bad name, but there are also people out there doing it right. StarDock has actually earned a lot of loyal fans for the way they've handled GalCiv2, independent of the actual game itself.

Just because StarDock is small, that doesn't mean they're n00bs. I wish they would distribute more games. I don't think you guys should be worried at all.

So far my only complaint is how they handled the forum transition. One day I tried to get on the forums and got a "The page cannot be found." Tried to go to the main site (www.sinsofasolarempire.com) and it was just like a picture or something and all the navigation was stripped off. No warning, no announcement, no explanation, just GONE. I didn't know what was going on. So I dug around the site a bit (they didn't totally disable ALL of the pages ) and managed to find a link to the stardock forums which were clearly nowhere near ready to be put into use.

Once I found them it didn't take long to figure out what was going on. Sins had a publisher! So I was very happy for that because it meant that things were moving along. So, despite this place being a mess, I registered and made this post then told the other HW junkies the good news and gave them the link to the new forums.

So then what do you do? You say "oh crap, they found us" and lock the place down. Now some of us have been following this game since November of 05. Some even longer. It just felt really crappy to be suddenly given the cold shoulder after all that time and it seriously curbed my enthusiasm.

The very least you could have done would have been to lock down the old forums and put an announcement "New forums coming soon!" Better yet you would have just left the old ones alone and announced your intentions, making the change only when the new forums were ready. What you really SHOULD have done was to just wait a few more days till the new forums were ready and THEN made the announcement and disabled the old forums. I wonder how many of the old forum members are still staring at that "The page cannot be found" page and wondering what the heck happened.

To be honest, they couldn't have gone with a better publisher, though Stardock are small they have a good reputation, which is exactly what this game needs if it expects to sell.
