World's Largest Truckstop

I spent the night at the Iowa 80 truckstop in Walcott, IA. It's billed as the world's largest truckstop. I could have and should have kept going instead of stopping here but I was tired (still fighting this bug) and haven't been here in a couple of years.

The place is truly large. It has a full restaurant as well as a some fast food places and is much like a small shopping mall selling everything from truck accesories to clothing. There are also a number of antique trucks on display which are always interesting to look at.

I didn't spend a lot of money here, but I did find a nice shave bag that is considerably larger than the one I had been using and which was rapidly becoming cramped for space.

Now I'll be running late today but no big deal. I don't exactly have an appointment anyway. As long as I make it to Milwaukee while the customer is still open it's cool. The dispatchers won't be so happy as I'm sure they're counting on my being there first thing this morning but it's good for them to occasionally not take things for granted. After all, I said I would be in Milwaukee today but never did say what time. They shouldn't assume. LOL

I'm only 4 hours from Milwaukee and it's time to catch up my log book and start wandering that way.

An assignment for Mason if he chooses to accept it:

How 'bout a state by state list of good places on the highways and byways to stop and eat? I've always heard that lots of trucks outside means good food inside!

That's easy. Anywhere but a truckstop. Lots of trucks just means there's room to park.

The majority of the small mom & pop truckstops have decent food. None of the large chains do.

Never heard of that truck stop Mason but will have to check it out next time we are that way.

Maybe you'll see Laverne and Shirley. Heh.

I think Laverne and Shirley moved to LA.

The Iowa 80 is a trucking landmark. Many annual trucking events such as truck shows and jamborees take place there, mostly due to the huge parking lot.
