For All Time
Album: For All Time
Year: 2002
Jessica Castanellos waits for the moment her boyfriend proposes to her in the lulling ballad “For All Time.”
An idealistic piano and fanciful strings open the single, setting a daydreaming tone. In the first verse, she says her boyfriend is her first love. He’s the one who still gives her butterflies after three years. He’s become an important part of life. Without him, she would feel like she would be missing something.
In the pre-chorus, she says she’s excited about their eventual wedding day. They walk down the aisle together, eyes only on each other. She wants him to be rendered speechless by her touch. She’s patient and willing to wait 30 years if she has to.
In the chorus, she can hear his reasons for wanting to marry her: he won’t be able to love anyone as much as her, they belong together. And that she’s needed in his life. Then, they will have romantic sex all night.
In the second verse, she says she’s missed him. She hasn’t seen him in a week. She tells him she won’t ever break up with him. Then, she asks if she can touch his crotch and kiss him passionately. She’s says she sees having kids with him and celebrating job promotions. She tells him they will be together until she is gray, senial and in a nursing home.
The pre-chorus and chorus are sung again.
In the bridge, she gives him credit for improving her life. He arouses her and encourages her to speak her mind. She knows he will pay the bills and take care of the dog, if she’s not able to. He reminds her of all her wonderful qualities if she’s having a bad day. He’s the man who she has looking for all her life and always hoped to find. She’s helplessly in love with him and wants to know how much she appreciates him.
The chorus is sung twice.
In the final section, the last couple lyrics of the chorus are sung again.
Ever since Castanellos was little, she fantasized about the perfect wedding to the perfect man. In her boyfriend, she’s found the one who meets every requirement and loves with her whole heart. They’ve been together for five years and both are established. They’ve had serious discussions about marriage and their expectations. Now, she’s anticipating the ring she will receive soon.
Castanellos’ sweet, naïve vocals are worshipful and adoring. There’s no one else she sees herself with other than him. He’s just so wonderful and kind and handsome…. It has to happen. She must believe it will.
The syrupy arrangement, with its thick, candied glaze, is tough to stomach. The sentimentality may seem tolerable at first. But after the chorus, the syrup is poured on in large doses. The addition of the vocoder was a mistake. The slowness of the ballad blurs the lyrics and hard to understand.
The affected “For All Time” sticks to the clichés and never lets go.

“You've been the first in my life/Who has ever made me feel this way/And I will not deny/I'm gonna need you right here/By my side.”
In the pre-chorus, she says she’s excited about their eventual wedding day. They walk down the aisle together, eyes only on each other. She wants him to be rendered speechless by her touch. She’s patient and willing to wait 30 years if she has to.
“Baby, I can't wait (Come and hold my hand and let me lead the way)/Let me take your breathe away (By holdin' and kissin' and lovin' and touchin' you)/Never will be too late (See myself through your eyes)/Baby, I can't wait (Until the day I hear you say).”
In the chorus, she can hear his reasons for wanting to marry her: he won’t be able to love anyone as much as her, they belong together. And that she’s needed in his life. Then, they will have romantic sex all night.
“You are mine/There's no other one for me/Keep in mind/You make my life complete/And tonight/We'll make love endlessly/Cuz you're mine/You're the one that I'll keep/For all time.”
“Now that you're here, boy/I'm never gonna let you go/Can I touch you there, oh/Do you mind if we kiss real slow/You're my everything/You're my hopes and dreams/Baby, you know it ain't no lie/I'm gonna be with you till the day I die.”

“You're the one that lights my fire/You're the one that keeps me strong/You're the one that I depend on/When my world is goin' wrong/You're the one that I hold closer/You're the man I'm dreaming of/And I really really love you/I just want you to know that.”
