Tech tree

Looking at the tech tree in rc 1.052 there does not seem to be that many technologies which look very evil.

Thought Police
Xeno Brain Washing
Galatic Domination
Advanced Slavary
Master Race

Seem to be about as much as a evil race can research.

I wonder if more evil technologies will be in the game when it is released.

who knows what evil lurks in the heart of a frogboy :D

i'm sure he has plans to shake things up. If he does i might play some more games going to the dimly lit side :) (i refuse to utter star wars comments)

There are more evil techs in the works but we want to hear what players would like to see.

Weapons of Mass Destruction (i.e. planetary genocide)
Organ Farming (breeding clones for organ donation)
Involuntary Euthanasia (to weed out the unfit)

I could probably think of plenty more but I'm not too familiar with the game mechanics.

Yes some of the existing invasion tactics would be more fitting to an evil race. Mass Drivers and Gas Attacks look especially evil. Maybe add some more nasty tactics for the evil folk While limiting the Good races to less brutal tactics.

Hard to say whay would work within the game's mechanics, since I haven't played it, but here's a few suggestions:
Sterilization Virus: slows the reproduction of another race.
Human Cloning Chambers: Self explanitory. Granted, only Quasi-evil... the diet coke of evil.
Terrorist Cell Infiltration - Like spies only they can recruit natives and spread like a virus.
Evironmental Destruction - sort of like terreforming in reverse.
War-mongering - convinces your population to support war giving you a bonus in combat.
Fear-mongering - convinces you oppenent that you are so stinkin' evil they are terrified of you, penaty to their combat (Perhaps there could be a "Good" technology that when researched, can actually turn this fear into something positive for the good empire which then causes the Fear-mongering technology to work against the evil empire.)

Anyone else?

Sorry for the double post but how about these:
Reanimate the Dead - Effectively increases your population growth rate.
Forced breeding and/or Killing "Unfit" Citizens- results in some kind of enhanced human abilities (or is this the same as the Master Race tech named above?)

gladiators.... the evil version of stadium

brain blockers... trade good, numbs the thought processes of all citizens +10% morale

hell power... takes life power 1 step further (only burns slaves for power)

the torure chamber...+5%morale...the evil entertainment social project.

terror star plus... modification to terror star to destroy all life on planet, reduces planet quality 50%, keeps all planetary improvement.

dark propaganda.... trade good. adds 10% to destabalizing efforts

ultra bribe...adds 10% to espionage efforts

(first time poster, long time reader here)

About the good/neutral/evil style of gameplay;

Did anyone play Black&White? Well, there was a big problem in that game because you could either be a very Good diety, or an Evil one (and your temple and huge creature changed visually to represent that) but there was no reason to be Good. I'm assuming there will be reason to be Good in GalCiv... but haven't really read any examples. Only examples of why being Evil would be better in GalCiv.

Thanks

I think the success of having good and evil will depend on ensuring that neither one is "better". It's just to give the game more depth and replayablity. The way I understand it, some techs would not be available once you had established your good/evil intentions.

The ability to have a 10% research bonus by having the own population feeding the machine (5% less population bonus, 5% less moral bonus)

Black acid coke, can only be traded with other evil civs.

Uhm, Anti Goodness Tactics (AGT) to aid warship commanders draining 5% defence (only works on good races, not neutral) by teaching fighting tactics that could only be countered by morally bad retaliation

Maybe I know more tomorrow ?

I certainly hope that being good isn't as "rewarding" as being evil. If you needed incentives to be good, then that would kind of defeat the whole point, wouldn't it?

It's the "road less traveled" for a reason. I consider it to be an added, and optional, difficulty.

suicide ships - cheap ships packed with explosives that you steer into enemy ships and explode taking em out (or severe damage). :)

good vs evil

i normally play the "good" way. there are strengths and weakness to every way to play.

In evil you can chose (when you colonize planets) to exterminate a species, which can greatly enhance the planet quality, enslave a race, and other items, all of which create bonuses for you. The other races will treat you with more caution (you are evil after all) it might be harder to create alliances, and races might get wary of you much faster than if you play "good"

when playing good, you mightget negative bonuses when you colonize a planet. It seems harder to get started playing good, but the tech tree has some rewards near the end. Also the other races will treat you differently (they warm up to you faster) and they sometimes help when a certain race (the dren-jin as frogboy said it sounds like)starts bullying you around the galaxy. :)

hope this helps. It will get a lot clearer as you start playing the game

I wonder if the Good Guys (tm) could use a few early to mid-game techs, as well. For instance:

Universal Literacy - production and research bonus
Critical Thinking - research and morale bonus
Altruistic Research - reduced cost for research

.02 cents/End transmission.

Well, to go further with my example, in Black & White (for those who may not have played it), you are a Diety (god) and float around a big map. There are little villagers that populated the map and you can only move around the map to places where the little vilagers worship you... you also have a huge animal that roams the island and is kinda like an extension of your power. The way to win the game was to make all the villagers on the map worship you and then attack the other Diety's temple.

Well, in Black & White, you, as a Diety could be Good, Neutral or Evil. But nobody would play as Good becasue it had no real benifits of any real kind. Plus, all the benifits you DO get were kinda late game bonuses. While the Bad player would get very strong early game benifits. So, while the Good player was sloooooowly sending missionaries and kissen a lot of villager arse, the Bad player would just throw burning rocks on your villagers, and they would totally forget the nice things you have been doing for them, and fear/worship the Bad player, totally shoving it in the Good players face.

So, I'm just wondering/hoping that there are TWO 'roads less traveled on' (Good AND Evil) and being Neutral is more of the Norm. (That was in responce to Uruguru)

Captain Bizarre has the idea... give the Good players Good benifits that aren't all 'Uber Hippy Flower Power Lazer Cannon that turns a planet into a big garden attack gun that you get at the very very end of the game, which you'll never see casue the Evil player has over run everyone since they don't have to abide by any rules and are always get the +% bonuses' ;p ;)

all good posts though... really informative...

Both alignments have benefits and drawbacks through the whole game.

Non-evil races tend to aid good ones, and good races will occasionally gang up on evil ones.

Good races lose benifits from events, but get more benefits from research.

Only evil races can be affected by a certain event (from appearances).

At least one UP issue only affects evil races.

I played Black & White as a good Deity.
Black and White is not an orginal idea, GC OS/2 had the concept over 10 years ago.

Playing good vs evil are really two different games.

Play good you try to build trust help other alien civilizations. A bully race may come by but you are their you help protect weaker races and maybe the evil races will learn by example. Try to win by build a true Galactic community. All races end out admiring you a you have won.

Playing evil has its own advantages and disadvantages.
You win by conquest every Alien civilization has one goal to erase your race. Playing evil you may have your empire split up, have to fight wars om multiple fronts.

The problem is balance the evil civilizations have few truely evil technologies.

I like all the ideas how about this idea.

Built Self replicating intellegent War robots, and by gene manipulation and brain washing build super soldiers.

Of course this will make possible the events,

The XL8000 super war computer has decided humanity is a virus. The machine has extreminated life on Earth and is hunting down all the human vermin it can find.

or

General Kang tells us that the military class is much more than human. The super soldiers have taken control of seven planets and claim that humanities place in the Galaxy is as slaves to the master race.
