When I receive DA, will I still need to install patches 1.2 & 1.3?

well, DA won't be out for several months and since you're playing the game now (assuming you have it), you should get the most recent patch because there have been many many changes and fixes since first release.

However if you mean getting the game at the same time as DA, probably not. But to be on the safe side you should update GC2 to the most recent patch before installing DA just to make sure no old bugs from a prepatched version affects the Dark Avatar expansion.

since DA is built upon the most recent version of GC it will update it for you when you install DA to the latest version of when it was released (which means there will be a patch about 1 week after release). But you should patch since there have been alot of changes. Alot of them changing the way the game is played.

May be a silly question, but why wouldn't you install the latest patches anyway? Bug fixes/new content is a good thing.

i think he meant will DA come with the latest patches for GC2. Which i would assume the answer would be yes. But unless you plan to do a fresh install of GC2 for DA (which is probably a good idea anyway) i don't know why you would need the patches from a DA installer, they're online right now (unless u have dial up and don't want to redownload them for your fresh install of DA). As already stated, patche versions = good, retail versions = bad.

This should definitely be the other way around!

Hmmmmmm.... no. The retail version of the game was a basis in which to build on. The patched version is not only to fix bugs in the basic form of the game but also to use as a vehicle to alter the game from its current state, to a state the players have asked for on these forums.

I agree Quixen, what I mean though is the game should be thoroughly play tested to insure the most accurate operation of the game. I enjoy the fact that the devs try to appease the players. I don't enjoy the constant needs for updates. If that was the case for Civilization III, Diablo, SimCity4, the Sims2, etc. I would never have continued to purchase or even play games, with the exception of the great PS2!! For me to log on even once a week, hoping to catch a glimpse of a new update or patch, well, that shouldn't be necessary. To all who read this don't get me wrong, I truly truly, truly love this game. Just ask the wifey poo, she hates it! Where's Mike?,,, oh he's in the office playing GC2, again!!!

Once a week? Hell I log on at least every 6 hours!

I dunno, I think you might be viewing the updates in the wrong terms. The 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 builds have each been more about expanding the game than bug fixes IMO. The ship yard screen was redesigned post-release not because it was bugged but because someone thought of a better way to do it so the extra step was taken to do it. You don't get that in many other games, usually post-release support just fixes bugs and makes minor tweaks at best. Stardock already have your money, they could have just left it as it was.
