Question for Developers--Can you use old rules as an option?

When you install Dark Avatar, will you have
the option of using the old GalCiv2 rules?

I am concerned about limiting the ability to
colonize planets.

DA will overwrite GC2 completely when you install it, and at least as far as planetary environments go there will be no option for it (it'll be permanently on). So if you want to play with the old game mechanics you'll need to keep a extra copy of vanilla GC2 for that (SDC's archive option should make it pretty simple to swtich between the two if you back up GC2 before installing DA).

Will you be able to keep both games active (in separate folders) or are they going to interfere with each other (like in the My Documents folder)?

They'll both try to use the same folder in My Documents (same prefs, ships), etc, so you'll probably be best off not trying to keep both at the same time.

Then I "humbly" make the request that DA use a different set of subfolders - or is this a metaverse or compatability issue?

And please put it on the table to make the storage folders user selectable/customizable for GCIII. I miss the ability to keep multiple versions active like I could in GCI. As it stands, I have to decide whether to stay with finished versions OR try out a beta rather than switch back and forth as the muse moves me.

Why can't it be like Galactic Civilization I and Altarian Prophecy? In those games you could either start the original and the expansion separately (so the original would remain unaffected by the expansion). This convention has been used by many other games in the past also such as Warcraft III and the Frozen Throne, it would be great if Dark Avatar followed this method.

Could it be modded to disable the hostile environments? That way you just turn the mod on/off instead.

You could just make a mod that gives all races all the colonization techs to start, so the environments are moot.

Let me see if I understand this correctly. Kryo, once we install DA, it it will take over the game, so if we want to play the original compaign, we can't?

Or does it mean that the new features and gameplay changes coming in DA, will be present in the original GalCiv2 campaign?

I'm hoping that it just adds the features and gameplay changes. So I can play games like I do now, just with the new features and stuff!

Thanks, I hope I was clear in my question!

Clarification:

You will have the option to play the original game or Dark Avatar.

We have decided to make it so that they play almost like seperate games.

So the new features in DA, won't be usable in the original campaign?

Probably not, I imagine the original campaign would need alot of re-working to balance the new stuff.
