Stars Are Blind
Album: Paris
Year: 2006
Paris Hilton promises her new boyfriend to be the virgin and the whore in the insidious “Stars Are Blind.”
Simulated steel drums open the single, setting a tatty tone. In the first verse, she tells him she likes being friends with him. He’s a decent guy, a rarity she has found. Usually guys want to sleep with her and then stop talking to her once she refuses their advances. Guys will say she’s making a mistake by turning them down. She brushes it off to them not being able to handle rejection. Her guy friend accepts her for who she is, which is refreshing for her.
In the chorus, she says fate is unavoidable and although she doesn’t understand it, dating each other is worth a try. She’ll be the good girl and treat him right. But in bed, she’ll be the bad girl he’s always wanted.
To fill a couple seconds, Hiltons chokes a grimy sigh of pleasure.

“I don't mind spending some time/Just hanging here with you/'Cause I don't find too many guys/That treat me like you do/Those other guys all wanna take me for a ride/But when I walk they talk of suicide/Some people never get beyond their stupid pride/But you can see the real me inside/
And I'm satisfied, oh no, oh.”
In the chorus, she says fate is unavoidable and although she doesn’t understand it, dating each other is worth a try. She’ll be the good girl and treat him right. But in bed, she’ll be the bad girl he’s always wanted.
“Even though the gods are crazy/Even though the stars are blind/If you show me real love baby/I'll show you mine/I can make it nice and naughty/Be the devil and angel too/Got a heart and soul and body/Let's see what this love can do/Maybe I'm perfect for you.”
To fill a couple seconds, Hiltons chokes a grimy sigh of pleasure.
“Oh, oh, oh.”
In the second verse, she says they could remain friends forever and never take the chance. However, she’s aware of his feelings for her, even though he hasn’t said anything. She reasons that they should live for the moment and not bother with logic or worry how other friendship-to-romances didn’t work out. She’s smug that he likes her, which really isn’t a surprise. Eventually, every single boy she meets falls head over heels for her.“I could be your confidante/Just one of your girlfriends/But I know that's not what you want/If tomorrow the world ends/
Why shouldn't we be with the one we really love?/Now tell me who have you been dreaming of?/I and I alone, oh, no.”
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, their friendship finally becomes something more without either of them saying anything. They are alone, talking about their day as usual. Then, for a short moment, they gaze at each other and smile. Hilton says there is nothing to hide and they will be lovers soon.“ Excuse me for feeling/This moment is critical/Might be we feel it/It could get physical, oh no, no, no.”
The chorus is sung again.
Hilton repeats the first two lyrics of the chorus twice to end the single.“ Even though the gods are crazy (Oh)/Even though the stars are blind (Oh)/Even though the gods are crazy (Oh)/Even though the stars are blind (Oh).”
The metaphor “even though the gods are crazy/even though the stars are blind” is fantastic imagery. The gods and stars are fate. If the gods determine they want something to happen, it will. The stars do not pay attention to who the person may be, they simply fall. Whereas, people talk themselves out of relationships or dating a particular person. It’s the only positive aspect of the single.
Hilton’s infantile vocals are congested and rough. Each coo is a nagging cough that catches in the throat but never gets out.
The reggae arrangement is as canned as the no-name brand of corn in the grocery store. It simply follows every note of other versions of songs like it.
The foolish “Stars Are Blind” is pure vanity, unable to see its own unsightliness.
