Freshman Going to Prom

Should freshman go to prom??

Ok. Here's the story. I'm wondering weither or not freshman should be going to prom with juniors and seniors. I'm a freshman in highschool this year and I was asked to go to prom this year by one of my good friends who also happens to be my boyfriend. He's a junior. I talked about it with my mother, she's a little iffy about it, but i want her to know that I think it's ok for me to go. Since i'm not allowed to date till i'm 16 if I do go, i'm only allowed to go with him as a friend, if that makes any sense. The part that my mom doesn't like is me riding in the car with the guy. I don't know if she just doesn't trust me or if she doesn't trust the guy. I've confronted her with the subject of why she doesn't want me to ride with another guy but she just tries to brush off the subject. I really don't see a problem with it, i mean he's a pretty safe driver, and I know he's not going to do anything stupid. Because if so I wouldn't ride with him anyways. My mom knows me better that I wouldn't do anything with him anyways, if ya know what I mean. I don't see 2 yrs in age as a big difference either. Now maybe a freshman going with a senior, I can see that as being a problem with age difference. After talking the whole subject over with my mom, she told me that I have to ask my dad about it. Well this is where the problem is. My dad is one of those "over pretective" type of parents that doesn't like the things that "us" teenagers do. I'm a little bit afraid of asking him. I've got a little over three weeks to ask him, which is enough time. I just don't know how to pursuade him into letting me go. I'm hoping he will let me go. So if any of you bloggers have any advice on what you think about freshman going to prom holla back.

Well, none of my children were/are allowed to date until they are sixteen, so they didn't/won't go to prom as a freshman. IMO, proms are for juniors and seniors, and as I remember, freshman and sophomores are seen as intruding when they attend, date or friend or whatever. JMO, of course.

Yeah i do realize that prom is meant for juniors and seniors. But my boyfriend is a junior, and he asked me to go with him. I don't want to turn him down just because im a freshman either. I really don't like the idea of him going with someone else if i don't go. I don't want another girl trying to rip our relationship apart. It already happened to one of my close girl friends and she went through a lot of depression and still is. I really don't want to go through that either. But thank you so much for your advice. I really do appriciate it too! If you or anybody else including anyother teens has advice or an opinion feel free to blog about it.

You know carebear, I guess Im the young one out of the adult fixing to plop down a response, and maybe I am going to say something a little different because I dont have children, but here we go.

I think if you and your "boyfriend" have the right mind set and know quite well that nothing is going to happen then I see no reason for you not to go. Maybe I am the different kinda guy, but I remember my jr and senior proms and you know I really didnt give a shit who came, I was there because I wanted to be, I didnt care if some freshman or sophomore were there, hey they wanna be there more power to them. As for your dad, I was going to be a father at one time, but thats another blog entirely, I think you just need to set your dad down and tell him that your not a little girl no longer and that there are times in your life that you need to take the next step and shed the skin of childhood, not that I am saying you arent still a child, you are in my eyes until you hit the proverbial age of 18, but just explain to him that you and your "boyfriend" are just going as friends and that if it will reassure him any you will go and come home straight after.

But if you do get to go to the prom, more power to ya

Thanx alot Cann1bal. I really appreciate ur advice. Yeah I really do wish that my dad would relieze that im not that little girl that he once knew. But if you knew my dad, you might understand me better. Trust me on this one. I like the fact that you wouldn't care if a freshman or sophmore came. Like you said, "more power to them." I believe that if anyone who wants to go should. There's another problem though too. My parents won't let me have a boyfriend untill i'm 16. Well I just turned 15 a week ago so I have another year to go. Thank you again Cann1bal. Hope to see more blogs from yalls!

Hey carebear, you know, you're starting to remind me a lot of my ex. I'm not sure if that's a good thing yet or not, but you do. She's a freshman. She loves carebears. Isn't allowed to have a boyfriend until she's 16. I don't really like talking about her so I'm gonna stop here with comparisons and just say that I think your parents are just looking out for you. The only problem I see with it is that 16 seems too old to START dating. I think they should let go once you get into highschool myself. I had to deal with her not being "allowed" to date the whole time we were going out and that was part of the reason she said for breaking up. Of course everything she said to me after that kinda took away from that reason sounding like the real one, but oh well. And yeah, that's the one I bought the rose for too.

If you really do have other things about that are the same as her than I think your parents should hold you back. I know her and if you're any more like her you need held back. But seriously, if your parents don't want you to go I'd recomend not going. Maybe you can go to after prom instead. It's "safer" and usually more fun than prom.

Hey Capt. No problem on playing with your head. lol. Why would you think that it was her??? Yeah the whole carebear thing was to try and throw you off, yet give you a clue to who it was. lol. That's right I am a little punk. Don't forget that either. lol. So where was the elbowdrop supposed to take place?? It didn't happen today at school. You probably forgot as usuall.
