I Hate When That Happens

Mom just called me. I am going over to her house for coffee in the morning so they can give me a ride to my truck when I leave out tomorrow.

She had lain down to take a nap. When she awoke she looked at the clock and thought she had overslept. She rushed into the kitchen, made coffee, and then walked out onto the porch to get her morning paper whereupon she got angry thinking someone had stolen her paper (it's happened). She sat down in the living room and switched on the television. That's when she realized that she was off by 12 hours.

She just had to call and tell me about it.

I've done this sort of thing myself, thinking I had slept much longer than I have, and I really hate when that happens.

How about the day I woke up thinking I was late for work, and the kids were late for school, waking everyone up frantic, running around, then they go "Mom it's Saturday!" Hehe, well, not good!

I did something similar a few years back. I woke up, looked at the clock and realized that it was a half hour past when I usually got up to get ready to go into the office.

I started the coffee, jumped in the shower, drank my coffee while I got into my suit, opened the paper and saw "Saturday". Boy was I pissed.

I've never been that far off but I remember going to work an hour early one time because we forgot to change our clocks. I felt so gyped that I lost an hour of sleep for no reason.

I guess it would be easier to get confused like that in the summertime when it's light much of the time.

I was 12 hours "off" once when I was 14...but I had a good excuse...I was recovering from anesthesia. My dad was in the kitchen cooking...at 6am...? Dad, aren't you going to work? No, he said, I think you're confused...it's 6pm. Yucky, crummy anesthesia.

Yeah, anesthesia can really screw you up. The first time I was put under anesthesia was when I had hernia surgery due to a work related accident. I have always had a high tolerence for drugs and had heard of people who had been "put under" who were aware and felt everything that happened. This was on my mind when they put me out.

I was laying on the table checking out the equipment, did the count down as requested, and next thing I knew I sat up suddenly and said "WAIT!!!!!" I was on the recovery room table.

I did something similar years ago. I got up, had a shower, got dressed and ready for school and then wondered why everyone else was a sleep. It was 4 am in the morning. Duh...
