State of the Community

Ive been with Wincustomize for about a year and a half. I love it here. Its a community that has some very talented artists, a few comedians and those who just like being part of this family. Those who are dedicated to this community are here to teach, learn, uplift and share their time as well as their talents! It seems lately that there is something in the air that stinks, and that is the poor, selfish attitudes of some newcomers and even a few long time members. Nothing irritates me more than seeing an artist submit something they have worked very hard on, and some idiot demand they change something about it to suit their needs or bash it b/c it isnt what they'd prefer. Please if you are here (paid subscriber or not) remember it is a priveledge, not a right! Do not bring negativity or drama in with you! No one needs it and it serves no purpose. Support others, say a kind word, Enjoy yourself! We are here to have fun....

It has been my experience that you get fewer complaints for a product that was purchased, than one that is given away for free. Isn't life strange? I know where you are coming from with this thread, and I couldn't agree more. Those of us that don't possess the talent or time to create a skin have no right to complain about the quality of what is offered "for free".
Virtually all the artists here do want a compliment for a job well done, as well as constructive criticism to improve their craft. And it should be worded in a way that each one of us want to be talked to, no need for hurtful digs, that only discourages people from contributing.

I think the percentage of "stinkers" in the world is pretty constant and there's a whole lot more people coming and going nowadays. Stands to reason we'd get more of them along with more overall traffic.

I agree with Ray tho......I'm always amazed how vocal the complaints are from those getting it all for free and not contributing in any way (except diatribe).

Love thy neighbor.

My wife would be a bit upset. Our neighbor is 15 years younger than her and very easy on the eyes.

Personally...I generally ignore stupid comments/whines/complaints...got no time for them. But sometimes I'll have fun with them and give them a stupid comment back...You only live once...Have fun with it...I do! And always remember to be kind to dumb animals (the two legged kind)...No offense to the animals.

My overall effort is to have confidence in my own intentions and actions while recognizing I don't always think first. Keeping a postive attitude can go a long way in keeping small disturbances and problems in perspective as well as minimizing the effect of large problems. We all make mistakes and all misunderstand from time to time. Be more tolerant don't exploit. Besides I can't complain, the community has been pretty okay. Overall my Object Desktop experience has been enhanced by the forums. So in total I'd say things have been pretty good.

I was here 1/2 year before I joined, then 4 1/2 years for a total of 5.  And there were some that have been here a little longer.  Those type of threads and the people that make them have been here from the begining, just seems like there are more now because there are more members and the age of the membership is getting younger.  Different upbringing.  I tend to have a shorter fuse now than I did a few years ago.  I guess its from hearing the SOS over and over again.  So I have to admire some of the mod/admins for their ability to keep their kool.  And I see why some just avoid the forum.

I tend not to comment on skins that I don't like, just the ones I do like.  Sometimes I will comment on those I dislike when the skinner beg's for a comment.  As a non skinner I usually don't do a technical comment, just on aesthetics.  To para phrase Jafo,... it wasn't any better back then, just less members.

Oh well, enough for now.

Unfortunately, I have been guilty on both sides of the fence. I never criticize, but neither do I praise or say thank you. I am a little hesitant to praise because I am so much in awe of the abilities of the immense talent pool on this site. While I certainly know what I like, I have zero capability to create these masterpieces. So please allow me to give my heartfelt thanks to all the contributors. I suspect there are others like me who are somewhat intimidated, but truly, just saying thanks shouldn't be that difficult. I hope all the contributors realize that while there will always be that "malcontent" who cannot appreciate the enormous contribution all of you make, there are also many of us who "silently" support you by downloading these wonderful skins and showing them off to family and friends. Again, thank you for your masterpieces and please, please don't stop.

Sincerely,
kwkid

let's see now, I'm a no talent artist with a sense of humor that doesn't convey over to the forums...so that must make me one of those who just loves being here! There are some great people here skinhit...you got that right, and things have went downhill a bit recently...especially in the area of commenting on what you download...but, and although "love thy neighbor" is a great thing, I think those of us who remember the way it "should" be ought to lead by example and just continue plugging along, when we download a skin, make a comment on it and let the artist know that we appreiciate his/her work, be civil in the forums, and just talk them through the sitiuation...if all else fails, we can always call for Po' & his troll thumpin' stick

Howdy, Z! Great new look around here, new "faces", skins and artists, threads. and more. What a pleasure to check in again. Been w/out an internet-capable PC since mid-June...hey, 100 yrs ago, who'd know the difference, right? Weird to be back here in Idiot Flats, er Idaho Falls after Venice Beach for six weeks and Carmel/Monterey-Bay Area. Ah yuk, sure is...ah, local here in comparison. School starting, looking for new house/home, yard work ( had to put a Skilsaw blade on the weedwhacker!). Labs happy tho, kids too. Me...still meaner'n'sour owl ___, as usual. Bless you and yours. -T
