Karma's Car Accident

Karma's Car Accident

I didn't get Angela's permission to blog about this because I haven't gotten the chance to talk to her yet.  I figured she would appreciate some well wishing though.  She was in a car accident on the way home from work last night and spent the night in the hospital.

I only have third hand information and hope to hear from her this afternoon or evening when she is expected to be home.  The info I got came from her husband to her mom and what they said was that she was rear-ended on the highway and forced into the car in front of her.  She was taken to the hospital and they did a catscan and x-rays.  She was having a lot of back pain and some vision problems so they put a neck brace on her and kept her over night for observation.  They planned to do an MRI this morning but apparently either she was doing a lot better or refused the MRI and now they are just going to release her.

So I am not clear on the extent of her injuries but am sure she is at the very least pretty banged up and sore.  I know she has a lot of people who care a lot about her so felt the need to let them know.  I will leave further comments as I get more information and hopefully will hear from her this afternoon.

I got a quick conversation in before I had to head to a baseball game. She went right to bed as soon as she got home since, as you might guess, she didn't get any sleep at the hospital. She is muscle achy all over but has no serious injury that we are yet aware of.

Her assignment for the weekend is to try to not worry about the car and just get as much rest as possible. It is nice to see all of you on here wishing her well.

I just got back online today (hubby wouldn't let me near the computer all weekend).

Thanks to all the well wishers on here!  It really does my heart good to see so many caring replies.

I'm actually back at work today trying to keep my mind off my back.  I basically got whiplash and messed up the muscles all the way down my back.  So, I spent the weekend taking muscle relaxers and sleeping, which seemed to do a lot of good.

Their main reason for keeping me was that I had lost vision in my right eye.  The Dr said it was most likely from whiplash, but he wanted to make sure.  I never got the MRI because getting stuffed in the machine freaked me out too bad.  It appears that I am claustrophobic and didn't really realize it until a freaked out in the MRI.

So, the car is mighty mushed, but I am pretty OK- nothing that won't heal in a few weeks.  The car may take some time, though, but I'm actually amazed that it wasn't more messed up considering that it's just a little Mazda MX5...luckily, it's a lease

Has your vision returned, Angie?

Yeah, it came back about 12 hours after the accident.  I guess it's not an uncommon side effect of whiplash.

The MRI wouldn't bug me if the sides were open.  The tube that they shoved me in was just *way* too much like a coffin feel for me.  Totally freaked me out, and I don't freak out easily.  I told them the only way they were getting me in there was if they drugged me to the point of unconsciousness, and they wouldn't do it.

I think my local hospital has a different MRI machine.  I had to have an MRI done on my leg, and I remember the machine being much more open (Closer to the catscan machine).

I hope the perp was fully insured, and you don't get stuck with any of these bills!

Michigan has "No fault" insurance, so it's my insurance that covers it...well, in this case, Stardock's insurance since it is my company car.  We have good insurance through Stardock, so I have no doubts that everything will get paid sooner or later.

That kind of sucks. He does the crime, yet you (or in this case) Stardocks pays for it.

If only you could have crawled to work and feigned falling down the steps. Cha-CHING! Glad to see you are feeling better.

Yeah, it totally sucks.  But, it's also why Michigan insurance is *way* higher than it needs to be.  But, we have a Democratic Canadian governor, so I don't think I'll see that change any time soon
