My first look at Vista

I like what I see so far and NO CRASHES! LOL

I know this is not my normal topic I post on but also being in Computer Crime Investigation I check out and test the newest OS stuff and write up how to dissect it. Here is my first Vista article:

My first glances of Windows Vista Beta 2, and I have to say, I like it!!

Here is my screen shot of my desktop of .

The clock and Calendar are called Gadgets and there are others for DLing. They can be docked to a side bar or put out on the desktop like above. I like the larger icons with actual previews of the files or folder contents.

You will notice that the icons are actual small thumbnails of the contents, even the PDF files. The folders show actual contents. Very cool.

The start bar is a little different and the “All Programs” poops up but stays within the confines of the window and you scroll to get to your programs or folders.

Windows Explorer is a lot different, you still have the options of Detail, Thumbnail or other views but they are different in appearance and again the contents of a folder is shown as the actual contents.

Folders that contain images, show little copies of the images and give you an idea of the contents in this view. You of course still have the Thumbnail view option. This one is just kind of unique.

My computer is completely redone. Shows drive usage as a bar along with info on the computer down at the bottom. Very pleasing layout and like the drive usage bars. I had to unplug my 500 gig WD external as I didn’t want everyone to know I am a storage hog, now you know anyway.. LOL

The control panel offers a lot of the same stuff as before, just a new look, but with a few additions. I Will be doing notes on them in the near future.

Well that the first new look at the beta 2 Vista release, so far I have had 0 problems with it, I installed it as an upgrade from XP Pro SP2 and it was flawless and seamless in bringing in my programs. It did not like my Nero CD program though and I had to uninstall that prior to installing the OS. Afterwards it was fine.

If you have any particular request for shots of any special part of the system let me know and I will post them in comments for you to see.

I installed Vista on my Intel iMac yesterday, with little trouble, other than getting the wireless driver and sound going properly.

So far, I like Vista. Of course, it's kind of sluggish right now, being a Beta and all.
Hopefully, Microsoft engineers will fix it in time for the launch in November.

Its' too bad that Itunes trashes Aero each time it starts, but what the hay.
But my brother and I can no longer share our libraries.

I had to wait to get home to view this as my Work PC (the senior engineer of a 2500 user network) is a POS.

Great screen shots!  Looking forward to getting it.

I've been beta testing Vista for a while now, and it's come a long way. I must say, though, that it still is a bit sluggish like orthocross mentioned. But nevertheless, it's coming along. I wanted to give you guys a screenshot of what it looks like to have the Aero Glass feature enabled in case some of you haven't seen it - (Click link to view):
