Who works harder: olders or youngers?

Simple question raised at another site I frequent. Asking the Joe User community and guests passing through what their answer would be.

In the work place, in your estimation, who works harder the older crowd or the younger crowd? What makes you feel that way? Is one group obviously more productive than the other, or is it just your impression.

Thanks for sharing your own impressions on the subject.

It depends on the person, but generally I think older people are harder workers and tend to be more dedicated.

A couple of reasons for this could be that older people are likely to be supporting a family while younger people may have few expenses and so any specific job is less vital to them, and I think older people have been instilled with a stronger work ethic than younger generations.

I think younger people. Older people are more likely to bugger off mid-shift because their children are setting fire to something or someone.

That's just my experience from retail anyway. It may be different in the real world.

Hehe.

I'm not an older person, but I've never had a job where I could just up and leave because of family issues. Such a job exists?

The younger work harder, the older work smarter.

Speaking in generalities, the older person tends to be more grounded and responsible, thusly more productive and reliable. When I was in management absenteeism was always much higher among the younger workers than the older ones.

What are the ages for "younger" and "older"?

I'd say that is up the reader, but using generalities, lets say less than 30 for youngers and 30 and over for olders.

I see a few interesting answers above, and a few generalities that have been argued from either direction. Still not really enough answers up there to say that the majority would go one direction or the other though.
