Uh, BlogClicker.com staff - please check your rotation algo.

Not so random, and far too repetitive

Definitely some weirdness going on at BlogClicker.com I noticed an inquiry (actually the writeup on the response, not the actual inquiry) by fellow blogger Gideon MacLeish where he had questions about whether he had been properly compensated the correct number of credits by BlogClicker.com

As it turns out, I'm raising similar questions myself. I started the day with 400+ credits, allocated 100 of that balance to my allocated credits and saw my balance drop down to 200+ credits -- where'd the other 100 go? How about the credits I should have had after paying for a month of "silver" status last nite and having to wait until today to actually be credited with that status.

It's not that big a deal really, at least not compared to the bigger problem I'm seeing at BlogClicker.com -- a very poor rotation algorithm. I'm seeing the same sites 2 and 3 times in a row in some cases, or seeing sites pop up 2 out of 5 times as I click through sites.

... continued from the original article

Example: (not picking on Gideon MacLeish's site, but I don't think he'll mind being part of the example) I see Gideon's site, wait for counter, click the number (which also tends to be quite repetitive) and wait for a new site. Instead of getting a new site, I get Gideon's site again. Wait again, click new number and get a new site. Go a few more pages and then boom, here comes Gideon's site again. If not Gideon's site again, I get a repeat of another site that came up soon after.

I'm hopeful that the staff at BlogClicker.com will investigate this issue and check their randomization and/or rotation algorithm.

To give a little credit where due, I know that the folks at BlogMad.net have worked hard to reduce repeats in their rotations. It's part of what helps keep their site one of the better traffic exchanges to participate in. They "get it" and realize that things have to be fair for their members and that things can't be boring for those that are doing the clicking through the exchange.

Can things be fixed at 'Clicker and some of the other sites that seem to have similar problems? If they put some time into checking the site from the user end, I would bet on it.

I think Gideon had an article on this.  You might want to read it and get with him.  And cancel Blogclicker.
