What the hell is up with bumping your own article?

Maybe I'm tired.  Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.  Either way, I have to ask the following:

What the hell is the deal with people who feel the need to forum bump every damn article they write?

Are you just so damn impatient you can't wait the minute or two it takes for the forum database to update and your article to show up?  I have never forum bumped one of my own articles, yet when I head to the forums I find every single one there, even if they have zero replies.  So obviously, it isn't a necessity for your article to show up.

Or is it just that you are such attention whores that the thought that even 60 freaking seconds might pass without your little article getting its spotlight in the forums just too much to bear?

Just curious as to the motivation for a needless action.

There use to be a problem with Articles showing up in the forums before the first comment was posted.  So some got into the habit of doing the forum Bump.  T-man fixed it awhile back, but old habits are hards to break.

I do this mainly because I often navigate from the sidebar alone, because when my time is limited I don't even open the main forum page, I open my own blog, check for replies, and navigate elsewhere from the sidebar.

And I do it now for the same reasons...I almost always navigate from the sidebar unless looking for something specific.

I figured it was something like that.  But ranting was so much more fun.

Articles do NOT show up on the "recent forum activity" list until a comment has been added.

Oh I am well aware of that.  It just seems deceitful for an article that has not actually had any forum activity to show up over there, thereby bumping an article that has had legitimate forum activity, removing it from the list in favor of blatant self-promotion.

But that is just how I see it.  And, yeah, I do feel a little better now.  Not much, but a little.

Well, at least I don't bump moldy old crap thats been sitting there ignored for days (or even weeks)...like *some* bloggers we know!

Mmmmm, moldy old crap.  I gotta get me some of that!

sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I usually do it these days when joeuser is acting wonky, you know the same articles in the same order for days on end. This practice annoys Texas wahine too, I wonder how many others are annoyed about this?

Yup, my "Recent Articles" list didnt refresh for 3 days in a row this week

Mine either! Why or why can't I ever have an article on the list when it gets stuck? It'd be like being FEATURED...which I never am.

I think it was all part of the major server hiccup Brad mentioned.

Hmm, all this reminds me of is lovely blue-vein cheese, which I can't have because I'm lactose intolerant

Well, even tho I"m late for the party, again!, I can pipe up too

The above bloggers are right about JU acting wonky at times, and that's when I try to bump my article.

Sometimes I do it cause I want to.

So

My mom used to say to me to " mind my own peas and q's"!!

Overall, yes.  But bumping your own article annoys the hell out of me.  Actually, when I see someone has done it, I walk away and refuse to reply.

Whip, if you were in front of me right now, I'd kiss you... Seriously... The one thing I have missed every day since I found out I am lactose intolerant is cheese. It was such a staple part of my diet prior and I haven't found anything even remotely close to replace it. Thanks so much for passing this on. You rock...

The box on my blog is permanently check for putting anything I write on the forum (unless I go directly there to write, which only happened twice when JU is down and then I never saw those articles again so I have no idea who replied or anything, so if you did, this is my 'I'm sorry for not responding!) (sorry, that turned into a mouthful)! But as I was saying that box is checked and so when I write, it goes there eventually.

You're not the first to bring this up Dev, it's been round the block a couple of times!!

Don't bitch, Brad has an uncanny knack for featuring stuff I'd just as soon sink, like my latest neighbor rant, lol!

Doncha hate that? I mean, Brad's pretty good at featuring the articles, but I've had a time or three where I'll come in and write four articles...three of which are heartfelt and took a lot of time and energy, and the fourth of which was basically dashed off with little forethought...only to see the fourth article featured! But I'm not going to bitch about being featured ever, especially since I'm mired in a bit of a slump in that department (to be fair, I've noticed the features aren't updating as frequently...I'm guessing a LOT of material from all of us hasn't gotten read because the powers that be are fairly busy, but still...lol!)
