Leave the nickname alone!

-or- multiple personalities??

I have a lot of pet peeves.  Perhaps I am just wound too tight or something.  But I admit, there are lots of little things that bother me.  A little while back, San Chonino wrote an article about the idiotic use of capital and lower case letters all jumbled up.  That drives me nuts.

But I have noticed something that bothers me even more.

People who cannot keep their online nickname the same.

Now look, I like to switch things up as much as the next person.  But when all you have to go on is a screen name of some sort, changing that daily makes it more than a little tough to remember who that person is.  I have noticed this most prominently on IM.  There are some folks on my messenger lists who have a different nickname EVERY SINGLE DAY!

What does this mean to me?  It means I have to look at their contact information EVERY SINGLE DAY to see if they are who I think they are.

People, keep your nickname the same.  Please.  Or I can just use the "Block Contact" options.  ;)

Well, I know it aint me.  I have always been Dr. Guy since day one.

But on the subject of the upper and lower case names, we have one here.  His name is Stoneblue (and no, I am not going to write it like he does).  I was thinking of San Chonino when I saw his post.

It isn't me, either. Y'all aren't going to see a change in my name anytime soon . . . I think I'm too fond of it

I agree, though. It drives me nuts when I'm on MSN or something and people change their names every day. At least i don't have a ton of contacts, so I usually know who it is, but it still bugs me.

I agree.

When people change nicks I delete them from my contacts.

It is an insult to intentionally confuse.

No, it isn't anyone here.  Just some random people who are on my contact list.

I agree with you Jafo: Switch it up too often and bye-bye.

I can empathize. though, most of the numb skulls ( ) I have on my MSN list I've known for a long while...for some reason i can easily pick out who is who. Still, We all have our days.

Why not just use your own nickname for them? All three major clients offer that functionality and almost every multi-headed client does too.

wow,  at first i thought you meant me,  cause my messenger name is different than my online name here,  and sometimes i use the nickname my uncle gave me ( when I use messenger)  so I guess it applies to me.  in a way.

I can use just my email name,  diffent from here,  can't change that tho.

Hehe, well, with that right there bangbang, you have exposed my lack of experience with IM clients.  It doesn't surprise me that you can do that, but I never thought to look for the option.  Heck, I just log on, IM a few people for a few minutes (mainly my bro), and that is it.  Thanks for teaching me something!

No worries Trudy.  Not you.  In fact, I don't think I even know your messenger name!

I never understood the need to change handles constantly either. I've been Zoomba since 1993. Sometimes I have to affix a number to the end of it because I registered on a site years ago and forgot my info when I went back, or on rare occassion I encounter another Zoomba somewhere.

Yes, my online handle has stayed the same for 13 years now... If you've ever seen a Zoomba online in a chat channel somewhere or on a forum, chances are extremely good that it was me you saw. There's never any confusion for my friends. It's just easier overall.

If someone changes their nick it is probably because they are hiding from something they said or did. They will say or do it again so I just ignore them from then on.

It is Hotbabe!  Sorry Trudy, I had to tell.

Like here, since I was the original Zoomba!

I change my name on MSN often. However, it is ALWAYS in this format:

AJ - *blah blah blah*

AJ being my name, and then whatever message I have afterwards. On messageboards, and anything 'internet' related (screen name type thing) I always use Keikonium. Capital K, rest lowercase .

Luckly, I have MSN Plus, so I just give my contacts custom names lol (usually their real name, or whatever screen name I know them by).

I used to see Zubaz all the time in the early 90's. But in those cases they were pants, not people.

If you see Zubaz out there . . . it's me. Or . . . you are looking at pants that are REALLY out of style. Get far, far away from them.

That's just as bad...like those asinine scripts in IRC that say 'Dork is back [gone 15 seconds]' or whatever.

Who on this earth actually cares to want to know how long some sad bastard was away from a chat session?

People need to grow up and get out more....

Dunno, Jafo....seems you're getting grumpier in yer old age...

Jafo = Just Another Frumpy Oldie.

Sad thing is, I agree totally. There's far too much such-like crap cluttering chat pages. Like who gives a rat's that someone was away on the bog

Quote box didn't work.

I think the name should not chane just for the heck of it. Why should a blogger try to confuse people. That is not thr right thing to do.
Yes it does...

Ta' for the demo....I see that, just didn't before.

Hmm, seems to me a lot of people out there might be confused about who they really are. But it doesn't help to confuse the rest of us at the same time.
