I Hate Banks!!!!

By the time I got back into the yard yesterday and picked up my paycheck the bank was already closed so I couldn't go cash the check. I decided to just get a room for the night and cash it this morning before heading out on my next trip.

When I got up this morning I wandered to the lobby and got myself a cup of coffee and since the bank is right next door I decided to walk over and see what time they open this morning. As I looked at the sign whcih displayed their hours I had to do a double take because I was sure I had misread it the first time.

Nope, there it was plain as day "Saturday.....Closed". Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

In this day and age what bank doesn't have Saturday hours???????

So now, while I have a piece of paper worth a couple grand, I have no way to convert that piece of paper into spendable cash. This is absurd. Now I'll have to wait until I return again before I can cash my paycheck. Since I'm going to the Carolinas on this trip that means I won't actually get my money until the end of the week at best.

This really annoys me because I'll have to take a cash advance from the office for living expenses this week and I don't like doing that because it cuts into the paycheck at the end of the run. It also means I can't pay off my laptop for another week and I was looking forward to getting it paid off right away.

In this day of heavy competition between banks, I can't even imagine a bank that doesn't have Saturday hours for their customers. It boggles the mind.

Ahhh, I'm saved! I pulled up that bank's web page and found that it's just this branch next to the hotel that's closed on Saturday. They have another branch a few miles from here that's open on Saturday mornings. Yay!

There are a lot fewer banks today than there use to be.  I remember my banks being bought out, oh, about 6 times now (I like the small ones).  So it is actually getting less competitive.

Yeah, I've long suspected that if you tracked the money far enough you'd likely find only a couple of people running all the banks. Perhaps you're right about the competition part, but they sure make a good show of making it look that way.
