Version question

Greetings fellow testers/Emperors,

I finally bought the beta and software. Been watching for a long time and sitting on the fence to get involved and finally took the plunge.

Question...

My install shows Beta4 (though I see some post about Beta4B, A, C, D etc) How do I know which version I have?

Also, the task bar shows version v.-0.70, yet when I use the Drengin Game Manager it says I installed 0.9.009 (Same for the multimedia upgrade). So what version do I have?

I want to be sure of the version before I post my first observations, bug reports etc. I've completed my first game with a score of 137960, not sure if that's good or not, but since I didn't have any docs and the first 20-30 turns were kind of floundering I think it's not bad. (I hope. lol)

Anyway, anyone got any idea what version this puppy is so I know how to report it (or even if I should report my findings?)

Thanks,
Dennis

I'm fairly sure that DGM will always install the latest version, so I wouldn't worry about all those numbers. When the last beta is released Monday, DGM will indicate that an ungrade is available, and you'll be able to download that. It'll be the last new version until the game's released.

Welcome to the game :D

and if something goes wrong repirt it here in the forum,

GCShadow,

I did not see your score posted on the Metaverse, but I think your score should have put you into the top 25, and that isn't bad (there are 84 adjusted scores posted). Did the game give you an option to submit the score?

Hi Jack,

Yes it did, but it didn't post, when I hit submit, it asked me to enter my callsign / handle again and then wouldn't let me enter it but hitting Submit brought me back to the menu again.

I read that this is one of the bugs in B4D and the next update will fix this, right? Anyway it's one of the bugs I encountered and documented. Actually I checked the list, and it would place me at 53rd. I guess that's not to bad, but then that was only my first game after all.

I guess since there is an update coming Monday I'll hold off posting observations/bug reports etc till then.

Hi Dennis,

Well, practice real well before the gmae ships. When they reset the Metaverse for 1.0 you may have a good shot of taking one of the top spots. :)

Hi Dennis
had you registered on the metaverse? I kept submitting without it showing up until i noticed on the metaverse to register, i think it's on the top right, but it's been a long time.

How are you connected to the internet, some people with certain routers were having problems getting there scores submitted

hope this helps

I believe I'm registered, you can't post here if you aren't, can you?

I'm on cable, never had router problems ever so I don't think that is the problem. It appeared to be internal to the game itself as I filled in the blanks, and never seemed to even attempt to post, it blanked my handle/callsign and replaced it with the text that said to enter handle/callsign.

I saw this bug reported and a response that said that it was a known bug in the code and would be fixed next upgrade, which I assume is the one coming monday.

The metaverse has it's own registration system. If you use the same handle as you submitted with they might just show up :D

Ah,

Thank you very much Rich. I hadn't seen that one little link to register for the metaverse.

Yep, I'm on there now, with the score I said, ranked 57th, guess that's not bad after only one game. Thanks again!

Should I post what I found or wait till next update on monday. It seems to me that I should probably wait as nothing I post for Beta4 would make much difference now before Beta5. Opinion?

Hi Dennis

57th is a great start for metaverse! Have fun learning the game, everytime is different, sometimes i can cream the genius ai's on gigantic and other times they have me for lunch "ah human legs to go with drengin soup. hmmm!" LOL

As for bugs, go ahead and post them, but go thru the forum first to see if they haven't been reported allready. If you don't see it there then say it might have been reported but here's the problem anyway. Stardock is on top of things, but i think they are going full tilit right now, Also why don't you see if it shows up in the next beta. By the way, try to finish games before starting on the new beta, they have been some incompatabilities between beta releases, so start with a clean slate. So if it shows up in the new beta with a new game it's not fixed yet.

Have you downloaded and printed the manual out yet? http://www.galciv.com/encyclopedia.asp?action=showpage&page=http://www.galciv.com/docs
Also Java_Scout's web site is the best, Without it i'd be lost (shameless plug for java) Hmm i wonder if he's really into coffee? Well have fun and remember no question is stupid if you don't know the answer. (And none of us know all the answers) Somebody will answer you. There are a lot of things to watch for. Here are a couple of things to try.

on the main screen on the top right where it says "sector x,y" to the left is a little box, click on it to see the influence values for that sector, If somebody is a lot higher than you, your kids are starting to listen to their music, wear their clothes (do the your wear clothes :notsure: ?) and start liking aliens more than you.

if you want to establish trade real quickly, try buying the a.i's freighters then landing on one of thier nearest planets. (assuming that you have open trade routes or are willing to kill one of them)

The minor races are pareticulary gullible, but if you trade universal translators to them or the rest of the ai's. your advantage went out the window.
