Martika’s craving for love is met in the savory ballad "Water."
The sound of murmuring water opens the single, setting a tropical tone. In the first verse, she says her boyfriend knows what's on her mind and is able to get her to talk about her problems. It excites her as she sees her values mirror his. She couldn't want him more than she already does. Before she met him, she was directionless and downcast. She relied on any kind of love she could grab, even if it was unhealthy and detrimental. However, he is showing her what a true love could be.
In the chorus, she says he's necessary for her survival. Her skin is blistering at the thought of him touching her face. She wants to be in his arms and leave herself behind.

In the second verse, he knows her better than anyone else. She says it was fate which linked them together.
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, background singers "a-oh" as she says the chorus in Spanish.
The latin guitar has a romantic solo.
