Goodies
Album: Goodies
Year: 2004
Ciara tells the drooling guys who gawk at her to back off in the vacuous "Goodies."
A vain Ciara opens the single, bragging about her well-endowed breasts as she wears a tight t-shirt. Then she feigns shock when boys look.
In the first verse, rapper Petey Pablo says he’s known for getting woman to do what he wants. All he has to do is speak and women fawn over him. Once he gets a lap dance, his attention is solely on the flesh. His friends could dangle a fancy car and he wouldn't care. If anybody tries to stop him from going to the strip clubs, he will plow through anyway. He says people can talk trash about him objectifying women. Again, he could care less. He's getting the prime choice of women while they are searching for ladylike women.
Ciara responds that she’s not a bimbo. She says she's mature and knows a lot about sexuality. She wants a guy who is attractive, has a steady, well-paying job, and who will buy stuff for her. She's not blowing things out of proportion. It just what she expects from men.
In the chorus, she smirks that guys want to touch her breasts and fantasize about her. Although she has her body on display, she's had men ticked that it didn't mean to grab her. They call her a slut and say she's a tease. However, she's proud that she got their attention and says they can never have any part of her body.
In the second verse, she says a luxury car won't tempt her to give it up. She's had plenty of guys approach her with jewelry, cars, and clothes in an attempt to sleep with her. The guy could say the most poetic phrases in the world. It's not going work. She knows what the men are after. Each time, she has refused them.
The chorus is sung again.
In the third verse, Pablo likes the underage girls the best. He sees a teenager walking by quickly and wishes she would sway instead. He hits on a young girl who slaps him. He threatens her, saying he's not afraid of her. However, she should be scared of him. He's been learning how to fight since he was a kid. He adds that he's not a strong fighter. But he should be soon. He reasserts that women want him because of his name. Women will line up to be with him.
Ciara retorts that he’s implying she's good-looking. Actually, the proper verb she's looking for is informing. Nothing about Pablo's comments is subtle. She says her body is only for the particular type of guy she wants. She tells him she doesn't want any further contact with him. Then, she lies and says she didn't have any interest in him. It's the guy who needs to leave her alone.
The chorus is sung twice.
Over the tawdry keyboard, Ciara moans some "uh's" and "yeah's" to end the single.
Ciara has a skewed idea of her sexuality. First, she believes she has a great body she should flaunt it and show it off. She then loves the stares she receives from men. However, she prefers not to have the men think they could grab her. She doesn't understand she's putting the image out there and the guys she attracts assume. Secondly, when she is confronted with a possible dangerous encounter she puts on a "who me?" act. She becomes startled and unconvincingly tough. She can't figure out the right way out of the situation (lying only makes it worse). Despite her assertions that she's smart, she's daft in social relations with men. Until she learns why she's being harassed, it's going to continue.
Ciara's weak, submissive vocals are laborious. With each breath, she pushes and strains and pushes again. However, she falls in an embarrassing way on her way to reach the notes.
Pablo's raps are ugly and disgusting. His openly violent and misogynistic attitude towards women is offensive. He believes he’s superior and no woman better backtalk to him!
The straight-out-of-a-porn-movie beats indulges in its sleaziness, flashing it with pride.
The cavalier "Goodies" is a piece of unredeemable rubbish.

"My goodies, my goodies, my goodies/Not my goodies!"

"I got a sick reputation for handlin' broads/All I need is me a few seconds or more/And it's a wrap/Tell lady to bring my lap/And I ain't comin' back/So you can put a car right there/I'm the truth/And ain't got nothin' to prove/An you can ask anybody/'Cause they seen me do it/Barricades, I run right through 'em/I'm used to 'em/Throw all the dirt you want it's no use/You still won't have a pinup in a fabulous room/On her back pickin' out baskets of fruit(I love you boo)/Yeah freaky Petey love you too/Ha Ha/You know how I do."

"You may look at me and think that I'm/Just a young girl/But I'm not just a young girl/Baby this is what I'm lookin' for:/Sexy, independent, gotta spend it type that's gettin' his dough/I'm not bein' too dramatic that's the way I gotta have it."

"I bet you want the goodies/Bet you thought about it/Got you all hot and bothered/Mad cause I talk around it/Lookin' for the goodies/Keep on lookin' 'cause they stay in the jar/Oh oh Oh oh Oh oh Oh oh."

"Just because you drive a Benz/I'm not goin' home with you/You won't get no nookie or the cookies/I'm no rookie/If you ain't/Sexy, independent/I ain't wit' it so you already know/I'm not bein' too dramatic that's the way I gotta have it/You may talk slick/Tryna hit/But I'm not dumb/I'm not bein' too dramatic it's just how I gotta have it."

"So damn hot but so young/Still got milk on ya tongue/Slow down lil' one/And you ain't got it all/Hey shawty/You think you bad but you ain't bad/I'll show you what bad is/Bad is when you capable of beatin'the baddest/I been workin' at it ever since I came to this planet/And I ain't quite there yet but I'm gettin' better at it/Matter of fact/Lemme tell it to you one mo' again/All I got to do is tell a girl who I am (Petey!)/Ain't no chick in here dat I can't have/Bada boom bada bam ba bam!"

"You're insinuating that I'm hot/But these goodies boy are not/Just for any of the many men that's tryna get on top/No you can't call me later/And I don't want your number/I'm not changin' stories/Just respect the play I'm callin'."
