Jump Down
Album: Awake And Breathe
Year: 2000
Edele Lynch unexpectedly finds herself in love in the underwhelming "Jump Down."
The sound of a crowd cheering and vacant keyboards open the single, setting a hyped up tone. Lynch says when she awoke, she couldn't wait to get to school and see her guy friend. She thinks her life is perfect and everything falls into place. She hangs out with him all the time. At her house, he can stay over as long as he wants. It doesn't matter to her. He's kind of skittish about it, though and still asks if he's invited over for dinner.
In the pre-chorus, she says their teasing was affectionate and not mean-spirited. She can't help but swoon whenever he says his nickname for her. He had her heart from the beginning, even though she didn't want to admit it. He brightens up her days.
In the chorus, she says she her head out of the clouds and she realizes what she wants. She didn't think love existed. However, thanks to her guy friend, she believes that it's no longer a fairytale.
In between the chorus and verse, an automated Lynch repeats "gotta jump down, gotta jump down."
In the second verse, she says they are two peas in a pod. She finds a note he wrote to her on her science book. Spastic and vehement, it spoke of how he planned to skip detention for forgetting a stupid rule.
The pre-chorus is sung again.
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, she says he's special, considering she never let anyone inside her heart before. She wants him in his life forever.
The celebratory fiddle has a solo.
The chorus is sung twice.
At the end, the crowd noises return as Lynch says "jump down."
Lynch was the type of girl who had lots of guy friends. But she never was interested dating any of them. Romance was a figment of her imagination. However, one day she realizes she loves her guy friend and thinks they will live happily ever after.
Lynch's chaste vocals brim with glee and elation. However, there isn't a speck of cynicism in her voice. It makes her newfound belief about love unbelievable.
The crowd sounds manufacture excitement and success. But the arrangement has a tepid pop beat that wades around the notes.
The sedentary "Jump Down" trudges along, bored out of its mind.
