Prove Your Love
Album: Tell It To My Heart
Year: 1988
Taylor Dayne thinks her boyfriend is all talk in the frisky "Prove Your Love."
Dayne's heated vocals and coquettish synths open the single, setting an urgent tone. She asks him he must follow through on his talk.
In the first verse, she says her boyfriend has told her he will wow her in bed and that he's a gentleman. She's curious if he's boasting or as passionate as he says. Her boyfriend says she has to believe him. However, she's not sure she can. He's talked up the entire experience like it's the second coming. She's looking forward to being with him. But she fears she may be in for a disappointment.
In the pre-chorus, she's inquired about his claims to which he's said he's not kidding. He's for real. To her, it's the same spiel. Except for a couple word changes, he could be the one of the last five guys she's dated within the last year.
In the chorus, she says she wants him to open a door for her or make her favorite dinner to set the mood. Saying he will do those things isn't cutting it anymore. Then, she would like him to give him the lustful night he said would happen.
In the second verse, she knows he's aroused by her. She can feel the burning in his eyes. However, she's eager to sleep with him. It's midnight and she tells him to take the initative and stop playing the nice guy role.
In the pre-chorus, she asks him if their night together will be something to measure her standards by. She says her expectations will be met tonight.
The chorus is sung again.
The coquettish synths and an electric guitar have brief steamy solos.
The first pre-chorus is sung again.
The chorus is sung four times to close the single.
Dayne has been dating the guy for three months. For the past couple months, sex has cropped up in the conversation. He said that he would make their first time memorable. He would set up candles and rose petals. It would be better than any love scene in a movie she'd seen. By the third month, she thinks he's insincere and leading her on. When he calls her about their date for the night, she tells him that tonight he will have to be everything he says he is. She can't ake wanting him anymore.
Her powerhouse vocals are red-blooded and volcanic. She will put her fingers on his lips and shush him. It's her night and not another word will be spoken.
The synths twinkle and sway to the animalistic beat. It satisfies the ear with its cheekiness.
The coy "Prove Your Love" is an entrancing dance pop tune.

"You tell me that you're serious/But I gotta know for sure/You say how much you want me/But I've heard it all before."

"Prove your love, gotta prove your love/If you want to be with me tonight/Show your stuff , 'cause words are not enough/I want to hear your body talk to mine."
In the second verse, she knows he's aroused by her. She can feel the burning in his eyes. However, she's eager to sleep with him. It's midnight and she tells him to take the initative and stop playing the nice guy role.
"Boy I can feel a love is on the rise/A message revealed in your eyes/You know I can't wait/To know your passion/ It's not too late/So take some action."
In the pre-chorus, she asks him if their night together will be something to measure her standards by. She says her expectations will be met tonight.
"Can you say that when you're through/I'll know what love is all about/Well, baby I've been patient, now/I'm ready to find out."
