JoeUser: The corner has been turned

Thank you for your patience

JoeUser may be a neat site but it hasn't been IMO a very reliable site. Down times, slow speeds, flakey behavior, bugs, etc.  On the one hand, it's free, so how can we complain? But on the other hand, it's still been down, slow, flakey, and buggy and that just because you're free doesn't mean that you're above criticism.

But in the past few days, we've finally started the full upgrade process on our entire server farm.  Shortly after GalCiv II shipped, we did some emergency updates that were designed to keep sites marginally running.  This week, we began the full stage upgrade.

Hopefully, even though we're only half-way done, you can tell that the site is much faster. Less flakey. More reliable.  Traffic has already started increasing dramatically as a result. More readers for your blogs, more freedom to surf the site, etc.

So for all of you who have been through the rough times as well as the good times, thanks for sticking it through.

Well, still a few bugs.

It may be slow, it may have a few bugs, but it is still the most userfreindly, and in general a great community, thanks Brad. I doubt if too many would mind if we had to pay a small fee to help keep it going if it was necessary.

I don't mind the 'down' times too much.  It does a person good to take a break for a while.

Having said that, I'm REALLY happy it's up and running again.  I may not mind taking breaks every so often (and I certainly don't mind taking a break for GalCivII, it's sale is part of the reason JU is possible for free) but go without JU forever?  I can't do it.  I break out in a cold sweat just thinking about it.  I think I'm addicted....

I did forget my manners!  Thank you Brad. And thank you Zergimmi for reminding me of my manners!

Note, in case it's not a known issue: editing of replies is currently not working.

Hmm, make that not working sometimes. It did work here, as an edit of a reply to a forum post, but wasn't working on a comment on an article posting.

I have an account, but haven't been able to set up my blog. I've been e-mailing for help for quite a few day. I hope putting a comment here will do something. I'm losing my patience. I really don't like LJ but what's a blogger to do?

Oh man, lucky comment number 13.... I might not ever have a blog here

I hate to complain, because I love this site, but your RSS feed hasn't updated in a month or so. Though you should know...

But all the same, thanks so much for JoeUser and PoweruserTV! I just wish I lived in SE Michigan so I could work for Stardock: I'd love to convert your site to ASP.NET2 for the performance and reliability.

I lurk on JU and am glad to read the kinks and slow times are getting attention. You offer a great site and I have a favorite writer I would never had discovered if not for you. Thank you BW.

I'm not around as much as I used to be, so I don't know when y'all did this, but I like the changes made to this here box where you input the text.  It seems a lot easier these days to get my format and spacing how I want it, so if there's down time, at least there are improved features along with it.

I'm on a creaky dial-up connection right now, and JU loads fine and good for me about 90% of the time (actually about 99% since you posted this), so whatever you and your team are doing must be working.  I've been posting here for a couple of years now, and every time the site goes down or goes slow it always winds up being better whenever you all work on it, so that's a pretty good batting average for a site that I don't pay a dime for.

Cheers!

dunno what corner you turned but on my end Joeuser has been wonky all weekend, My articles are not showing on new articles, and even with replies it is not showing in forums at all.

BTW I still appreciate being here and allowed to use this site.

Yep, same here Modman.

I also reiterate the post that stated that the RSS feeds for all of JU have not updated in a month now (March 17th is the most recent article that shows up in RSS aggregators).

Thanks again for the work, just mentioning some things that are still a little out of whack. (That sidebar hasn't updated in a about 24 hours now)

The free ice cream would be great if they didn't slip so many turds in the cones.
