Need You Tonight
Album: Kick
Year: 1987

Michael Hutchence eyes an attractive woman in the carnal "Need You Tonight."

Rapturous guitars open the single, setting a craving tone. In the first verse, he sees her walk to her friend's table and talking. He says the chances of them running into each other and meeting won't happen many more times. She gets up to throw her cup away and they exchange flirty looks. He desires her to say goodbye to her friend and talk to him instead. He can't take his eyes off the refined way she crosses her legs and puts her hand on her chin. Each movement is perfect and graceful. He aches to tell her that she's the girl he wants.
"All you got is this moment/Twenty-first century's yesterday/You can care all you want/Everybody does yeah that's okay/So slide over here/And give me a moment/Your moves are so raw/I've got to let you know/I've got to let you know/You're one of my kind."

In the chorus, he says not being with her is keeping him up at night. He's not normally nervous around women. However, she's in another league and unlike the women he's dated.
“I need you tonight/'Cause I'm not sleeping/There's something about you girl/That makes me sweat."

In the bridge, he's curious if she's like him: a loner who is weary and in need of companionship. In the meantime, he's going to continue his life as it was.
"How do you feel/I'm lonely/What do you think/Can't take it all/Whatcha gonna do/Gonna live my life."

The chorus is sung again.

The bridge is sung again.

The second half of the first verse is sung again to close the song.
"So slide over here…You're one of my kind."

He wants her. With each passing day, it eats at him that he hasn't gotten her in his life yet. Just from watching her, he knows that they would get along well and have a passionate relationship. If only they could alone without any distractions, then they would connect.

Hutchence's mouthwatering, sensual vocals fuel the intensity of his emotions towards her. It's torturous for him to see her, knowing he can only glance at her.

The observant guitar tracks her every move and releases the desires he can only think privately.

The erotic "Need You Tonight" teems with heat and verve.
