Beautiful Soul
Album: Beautiful Soul
Year: 2005
Jesse McCartney asks his girlfriend to be exclusive in the gushing "Beautiful Soul."
A corny guitar opens the single, setting a pedestrian tone. In the chorus, he says that his past relationships were based on looks. He's now looking for a girl that has a kind, loving personality. He says he would like to date her and that she's a wonderful person. He swears his undying love and it would hurt him if she were to tell him "no." He doesn't want them to focus on the drama.
In the first verse, he says that she's not like other girls. She's not vain or seeking attention by wearing skimpy clothing. He promises he wouldn't cheat on her. He will be the support system she's always desired. He's not the type of the guy she's gone out with before. He asks her to allow him into her heart.
The chorus is sung again.
He adds that she is all a guy could ever want.
In the second chorus, he says he's not rushing her into anything. He'll still be there for her as she makes the decision. He'll answer any question she might have. He says he won't ever cause her heartache.

"I don't want another pretty face/I don't want just anyone to hold/I don't want my love to go to waste/I want you and your beautiful soul/You're the one I wanna chase/You're the one I wanna hold/I wont let another minute go to waste/I want you and your beautiful soul."
In the first verse, he says that she's not like other girls. She's not vain or seeking attention by wearing skimpy clothing. He promises he wouldn't cheat on her. He will be the support system she's always desired. He's not the type of the guy she's gone out with before. He asks her to allow him into her heart.
"I know that you are something special/To you I'd be always faithful/I want to be what you always needed/Then I hope you'll see the heart in me."
The chorus is sung again.
He adds that she is all a guy could ever want.
"Your beautiful soul, yeah."
In the second chorus, he says he's not rushing her into anything. He'll still be there for her as she makes the decision. He'll answer any question she might have. He says he won't ever cause her heartache.
"You might need time to think it over/But I'm just fine moving forward/I'll ease your mind/If you give me the chance/I will never make you cry c'mon let's try."
The chorus is sung again.
In the bridge, he suspects that he's pressuring her. He's anxious to know how she feels about a serious relationship. He says she can say whatever she feels with him. He won't begrudge her if she chooses not to be with him on an exclusive basis."Am I crazy for wanting you/Baby do you think you could want me too/I don't wanna waste your time/Do you see things the way I do/I just wanna know that you feel it too/There is nothing left to hide."
The chorus is sung again.
The second chorus ends the single."I don't want another pretty face/I don't t want just anyone to hold/I don't want my love to go to waste/I want you and your beautiful soul/Oh/ Beautiful soul, yeah/Oh yeah/Your beautiful soul/Yeah."
After three months of dating, he's realized how much she means to him. They have fun taking walks. They IM each other about whatever happened during the day. It's something real to him and he would like them take it a step further. He's careful not to scare or force into anything she may not want.
His papery vocals are polite and chummy. He treats her like an Xbox buddy and not a girlfriend whom he loves. However, in the bridge, he uses his lower register. It has a swagger to it. There's potential to be mined.
The bumbling guitar arrangement clutches the beats then drops it quickly. It's not until the bridge that it takes charge and becomes effective.
"Beautiful Soul" is a wearisome listen.
