I failed a character string verification

Yes, the other day I prepared a really long email to send to my husband.

Not thinking to save it (what could go wrong?), I hit "Send", then was presented with a character string verification page. Dutifully I went to type what I saw...or what I thought I saw.

But some of those squiggly things can be so confusing and illegible...yes, even to the human eye. So I typed what I thought I saw...then *ZAP* I failed a character string verification for the first time ever.

Yahoo informed me that the message was neither sent nor saved.

GRRRRR.

Huh?

I think she means she flunked a 'bot' test.

Yeah, I failed one of those the other day while trying to post on a friend's Blogger site. Ugh. I felt really dumb, because I had to retype the entire message, and by that point, i'd forgotten a bunch of the things I'd wanted to say . . . oh well.

I get those verification thingys also. But no rhyme or reason why. Sometimes they are everytime I go to send something and then it doesn't come back for quite a while only to start the process over again.

While I've never failed completely, I usually get a re do by getting another chance with another string of letters. I get very annoyed also with this.

I wonder if and when this pops up if you can hit the back arrow and then copy it before you go forward again to try your eye at the funky letters that can be hard to read at times.

I've never gotten a "You failed. Go away, bot." message, but it's been a long time since I haven't been asked to try it again with a different string. I figure it's a testament to how much better computers are getting at simulating human abilities. Maybe one day they'll institute reading comprehension tests.
A man went into a restaurant and ordered a hamburger. When the hamburger arrived it was burned to a crisp, and the man stormed out of the restaurant angrily, without paying for the hamburger or leaving a tip.

Did the man eat the hamburger?
And as Alan Turing might say, if a bot can answer questions like that, maybe we should allow it to express its opinion.

I get that on every email with 2 Yahoo email addresses! I've emailed them of my intention to discontinue using Yahoo if this isn't stopped. Once in a while is OK; but everytime??? And, about half the time, the characters are indecipherable. usually, you get a second and maybe even a third chance - but not always. I'm a Yahoo shareholder, too; but I'm going to bail on that too if this persists. They're going to push people away!
