Growing a Beard

I recently decided to let my beard grow. This is partly due to the fact that I hate shaving, and I especially hate shaving in the public restroom of a trucktop. It's also partly due to the fact that I have come to think that shaving is a silly modern day affectation and show of vanity. The beard is natural, and scraping it off with a piece of sharp metal is unnatural and a bit silly.

It's been growing about a month now, and is coming along ok. It's past that initial itchy stage and I have now grown accustomed to it. This isn't the first time that I have grown my beard, but this is the first time I have allowed it to grow naturally, without any shaping or alterations.

I know in today's Western society beards are considered unacceptable and out of style, but I couldn't care less. I don't think I'm going to waste money on hair cuts any more either.

I will trim my nails though.

Here's a very poor quality pic of my beard's current stage of growth. Keep in mind, it's only been a month so it's not yet at full thickness, thus doesn't look all that great.

Thanks Guy.

I managed a tad better pic with my webcam. I tried to edit it in the original article but for some reason it didn't take.

Oy, I'm not too fond of beards but yours look good on you.

What did you say? No more hair cuts either....I dunno...pretty soon we won't recognise you M!

Thanks, Serenity. Maybe I'm just getting lazy in my old age

nice face brush mason, I had to stop growing mine out {even though I loath shaving} it is snow white and adds about ten years to my age.

Everyone keeps telling me it makes me look older (probably the grey hairs in it), but I don't care. Lazy wins over vanity any time.

Lol. I generally shave once per 2 months or so. My facial hair grows so slowly and not everywhere. At it's longest, I have just a 1/3 inch long hair around ends of area above lip and a half inch goatee. Yay, genetics!

Genetics is pretty hit and miss. My paternal grandmother was Apache. My younger brothers have very little facial or body hair while I have copious amounts. Guess I took after the Irish bits.

At least it's still brown. My dad (now 63) has had a beard since 1972 and these days it's so white he could pass for Dr. Andrew Weil. Only not as well-groomed.
