Got Hit By A Car

I was really looking forward to going for a ride on my bicycle after almost a month on the road. When I got home I jumped on my bike and headed for the store for a twelve pack. I was less than a block from the store when some moron in a car came barrelling around a corner and slammed right in to me.

I wasn't hurt too badly, just a scraped elbow. The bike is ok. But I was pretty pissed. The asshole didn't even stop.

I know what his car looks like, and even got a glimpse of him If I run across him, we're going to have an interesting encounter.

yikes and double yikes!

the title was scary enuff but i gotta real nasty cold chill when i saw you were the author as the page loaded cuz i KNEW it was gonna involve your bike.

while a scraped elbow may not be life-threatening--and i'm so glad you escaped anything more serious--every trauma extracts its own toll. i'm also glad your bike wasn't damaged.

while it may not be as immediately satisfying as a face-to-face confrontation, a few surreptitious applications of naval jelly can really help to distinguish the appearance of any car owned by an asshole like that.

LOL!  I saw a car in a meijer parking lot that somebody did that to.  They wrote out "bad driver" across the rear fender on both sides and "stay back" on the trunk lid.  The front of the car was smashed in, so I can only assume the person who did it had a valid reason.  I'd probably take a different route and just splatter it on the whole car or write "My wife is a sheep" or something like that on it.... not that I can *ahem* suggest any such illegal acts....

Glad you are safe.  Too bad you did nto get the license plate.  Then the police could have paid a visit and he could have visited one of Shovelheat's contemporaries!

What a jerk! I'm glad that you are mostly okay.

Please make sure that you are highly visible. Strobe lights are good. Not that it's your fault but anything you can do to prevent a future swipe is good. I know that it probably wouldn't matter at a corner anyway but it might make a difference next time.

The worst thing is that the guy didn't even have the decency to stop and make sure you were okay. What is wrong with people?

Glad to hear you are o.k. I'm sure glad it wasn't worse that it was.

Be careful.

Thanks folks. I suspect the jerk had been drinking, which would explain his bad driving as well as failing to stop. I just hope he doesn't kill someone.

I run bright flashing lights on front and back, so visibility isn't an issue. The jerk was simply not paying attention to his driving.

Holy crap!! I too can't believe that someone would hit anyone or anything with their car and not stop. I don't blame you for being totally pissed off. It pisses me off and I wasn't even there!

Best wishes.

That sucks. When I got hit by a car on my bike the diver stopped and then she sued me for the damage to her car.

When I was 6 years old I was walking to school and got hit by a drunk driver who ran a red light. I flew over 10 feet and landed on my back. Only reason I am alive is because I had a backpack on so my head didn't hit the concrete. The driver got away with it and I spent over a month in the hospital.

John, that figures. Some people are just amazing.

This week I heard a news story on XM radio about a guy who worked for a city. He backed a city dump truck into his own car, and then tried to sue the city for his own stupidity!

M I'm so glad you're OK. Good grief, those crazy idiots behind the wheel of a car!

Eek Mason. You have some weird luck with accidents.

What a jerk.

Glad you're (mostly) ok. Did you report the accident?

We had an employee in our little town that backed the city garbage truck into his car. He asked his boss if he'd get fired, and the boss responded, "it's YOUR car. The only way we can fire you is if you file a claim and it goes against your driving record".

He smartly fixed the damage himself.

Glad you came out of it without any major incident Mason.

I often ride with a rock under my seat for just such occassions.
